Sgt93 Yes, you only need one ("a") rearview mirror in IL.

(625 ILCS 5/12-502) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-502)
Sec. 12-502. Mirrors. Every motor vehicle, operated singly or when towing another vehicle, shall be equipped with a mirror so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of such motor vehicle.
(Source: P.A. 82-122.)

Here is a link for the entire Illinois Vehicle Code (625) if you are interested.

GingerTJ You could make the argument that your rear view reflects the drivers side.. If tilted correctly if needed..

GingerTJ I've never had an issue.. Cops around here told me just a rear view is required.. Just do it anyway lol that's petty to pull a jeep over for no mirror...

KentuckyMike Most states require at least one rear view mirror minimum. whether side mount or windshield mount. Call the Illinois State Police vehicle inspections department, they will be able to tell you the correct answer. Most all street legal(and State Inspected) sandrails run just one rear view mirror inside on the windshield.

mudslingr yea i did that but there were so many people saying yes it is and no it isnt... better cutting out the middle man and going right to the people that would know. The cops would be able to give a defined anwser.

ILLINOIS !!

That time is coming!!! summer where we can take our doors off. after investigating and all the contriversy about side mirrors, i have came up with an offical anwser from the chief if police. NO you do not have to have side mirrors ... Illinois vehicle code sec. 12-502 from chapter 95 1/2 only states you need A mirror so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the higway for such distance of at least 200 feet. Which is your.. Rear view mirror! For me i like having a little something on my jeep to see on the side so i went out and bought those 3 dollar cirlce mirrors. rotate the vent so the flat suface is showing and stick the mirror on. when you want to use the vent you can still freely rotate it.

i printed this instruction out just incase theres anboody harrasing me about it and put it in the glove box.
