Actually I would say I see more hostility towards FJs in this forum. I have never seen any FJ or any other 4x4 hostility on the street or trails.
If you want to see hostility, go over to any of the FJ Forums.

DurbJKU I have a guy in a smurf (blue w/ white top fj) when I'm driving home from work eyeballing me and cutting me off a few times. Didn't see him for a couple weeks. Then on my way home the other day with the top off I look over while I'm at a stop light there he is looking at me, so I do what any jeep driver would do, I looked at him and stretched out of the top. He floored it on the green light and took off, and I slowly took off. Talk about little d! Ck syndrome. Lol.

Sometime last month I decided to write the California DMV regarding this plate. I figured I wouldn't hear anything from them but today I received a reply. The spelling of the plate in question is slightly wrong. I hope they have the right one in their files. They spelled my last name incorrectly, too.

It seems that if they receive just one complaint about a plate nothing further gets done. However, if they get multiple notices they might take action, if anyone has a spare few minutes to send them a quick notice.

Here is the state's DMV address:

DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES
REGISTRATION OPERATIONS DIVISION
P.O. BOX 825393
SACRAMENTO, CA 94232-5393

May 7, 2013

Mr. Jeffrey

Dear Mr. :

Your letter regarding the issuance of license plate number "FUJIEEP" has been reviewed.

Please be assured that our staff makes every effort to prevent the release of any license plate that may be considered to be in poor taste.

One complaint by the general public is not indicative of being clearly offensive. Since many of the plates that we have unsuccessftilly attempted to recall have been more offensive than "FUJIEEP," it is highly doubtful that we could secure a cancellation. Therefore, we will not attempt to recall this
particular plate at this time.

Your letter regarding the issuance of this plate will become a permanent part of our files, and should we receive similar complaints, the configuration will again be reviewed.

I am sure you can appreciate how difficult it is to balance an individual's constitutional rights to free speech and expression while protecting the sensibilities of all segments of our population.
Please be advised that we will continue to closely scrutinize license plate requests and prevent the issuance of overtly sensitive configurations.

Thank you for interest in this matter and for the opportunity to explain our position. If you have any questions, you may contact Kathy Mitchell, of my staff, at (916) 657-9842.

Sincerely,

K. KRAMER, Program Manager
Customer Service and Operations Support

Y-Guy Tuesday night we're at the driving school getting my 15 year old signed up, the empty space was next to a blue FJ. Now mind you I've never been in a FJ and could care less, I've only bought American cars (saw what you want). So we come out and she's walking to her FJ, sees my JKU with the freedom panels off and windows down. She looks at me says, "nice way to rub it in", my wife asked me what her problem was - figured it was a case of Topless Jealousy.

cavediverjc He still has the word "JEEP" on his FJ. Guess we're gettin' to him!

I'm surprised that the state license bureau would permit that one to be printed. Obviously an oversight on someone's part.

If you want to make life difficult for the owner, report it to the state's DMV where it is registered and I bet the owner gets a notice that they have to choose a different plate.

Miguzi I felt like I was in a tiny box when I was driving\riding in my ex's fj... So cramped, giant blind spots and such. .

She also thought her FJ was better than my TJ...

I read this in an FJ forum debating wether or not the Jeep was superior and why, and this was one of the replies:
"FJ is way super cuter and holds way more shopping bags, plus it has a big mirror on the sunvisor!"

For an off-road machine we're looking at TJ right now though, FJ 40s are badass but we don't have the time to maintain em not to mention it gets pretty cold up here, so good heaters are nice :-)

Malebolgia Most of the FJ drivers I deal with at work are kind of snobbish. I have driven one of the new ones and the old ones as well. Old is far better in every way. New toyotas are nice and shiny but I do have to give off road props to the old ones. My younger brother has had two 84 toyota pickups and they do really well. His first one out wheeled a lifted 97 dodge and a lifted 78 chevy when his was stock.

Back on topic, I have one customer in particular that drives a new FJ. He and I got talking about it and he hung his head and said it was a compromise he made with his wife. She wanted something for around town with the kids and he wanted a CJ7 lol. I would say he lost on that one.

HK_Runner I will say that there are some sweet 2nd and 3rd gen Toyota 4Runners and trucks with some cool guys who drive them, and go pretty much everywhere I can. I have run with a few in my JK and never had an issue- super friendly guys, and I was the only Jeep there. Toyota does have a pretty solid off-road heritage. The FJ guys are sometimes a different story. A few remind me of the Ellsworth guys in the mountain biking world. Weird of them for sure. If I see an old Toyota, chances are the driver will be cool.

Proxy404 I'll back OP's story up a little. I drive to this grocery store near work to get lunch a few times a week and on more than one occasion I've come out to my Jeep with 2 FJs on either side or in front like they're ganging up on my or something. A few have tried to drag race me off a stoplight too.

Although, they may just be trying to fit in. I've had one or two try and wave at me.

I've only really seen one modded FJ around me. Looked pretty sweet sitting on 33s and some other equipment on the tire carrier. But overall I think they look a little goofy. It seems like they sit decently high but their body is too tall for their gait. I like the wheels outside the body for off roading personally. To each their own.

kbaum03 I have been on both sides having owned 2 Tacoma's and an FJ in the past 8 years. Currently own a 4Runner Trail Edition and a JKUR (also previously a YJ & TJ). There is some name blasting and generalizations being thrown around by owners of each. Like my Toyota may not be a rock crawler but it will start and I can stand to drive it home or the Jeepers talking about the Mall Crawling Toyota's or that independant suspension can't climb anything off-road.

The real truth is that both vehicles are capable on the street and off road it just depends on where your priorities are and what you like about a vehicle.

For me, I love to drive my current Jeep on the road and offroad better than any other vehicle I have owned. My Toyota's also drove well on road and I've taken them places off road and back that many people would not have tried.
