And a true HID retrofit with HID projectors is your best bet. NIce even smooth distribution of light with a wide spread. And if you use quality projectors you don't have excessive foreground lighting.

You will get a slight boost from Phillips Extreme +80 bulbs. The type is h13 also called 2008. I got mine on sale for $20 after rebate on amazon. They don't go further, but they are much whiter (vs orange stockers). They also have more fill upclose and to the sides. I wouldn't pay more than $30 for the modest improvement.
The next step up is about $200+ for a H4 halogen conversion. The truck-lite 2nd gen LED is what I would recommend saving up for. With forum discounts you can get a pair for around $420.

As far as LEDs go, they still have some bugs to work out of the Trucklight LED headlights. I bought a used set of "Gen 2s" form someone here on the forum. They are plug-n-play but have hot spots and a slight flicker. I understand there is a fix for the flicker but I hardly notice it so I won't bother. The anoying feature are hot spots in the shape of a "V", one on each light. You can see them when the lights shine on something but go away when on the road.
All that being said, I'm happier with them than with stock lights.

I've been reading everything I can on on this subject. Still confused. I think LED will win out. I swapped out the bulbs on my 08' for the bright white bulbs. I noticed a big differance. One thing too consider, how much off roading do you really do after dark. At between $500.00 to $700.00 a set I think I'll wait til next fall to make my mind up. Good luck.

Best headlight for 08 JK
I saw a comparison online with various LED and HID bulbs compared for JKs
The best ended up being a drop in HID kit with the stock housings.
Google is your friend!

|mudslingr||Check out ddmtuning.com , not exactly plug and play BUT it is very cost effective for an hid kit. Spend like 40 bucks more than you would for the plug an play and get a good bang for your buck .|

Best headlight for 08 JK
I would like to know what would be the best headlight for a 08 JK that will just fit the sockets. Eventually I will add lights to it but for now would love to just retrofit something brighter.
