TJGarrett Thanks man, I've looked all over Oklahoma and only found one and he won't respond.

Commando Solo If you found metal in the oil then it could be a bearing, or there could be piston slap where the piston knocks on the head because it is over extending in the stroke.

Make sure you check other craigslists too.

Good luck

TJGarrett Hey that's ok, I appreciative it. I did end up taking the valve cover off to check the lifters and rods and they all seem to be in good condition. I had a friend take a look and he believes it could be "a bad bearing". We found a small piece of metal in the oil too. I'm currently looking around Craigslist for an engine but no luck yet.

Commando Solo I have no clue what could cause it to knock without being able to look and mess with it, but if you do determine that you need to do an engine swap and you cant afford down time your smartest and cheapest route would be to rob a 4.0 from a salvage yard somewhere near you and put that in over a weekend. but that could be dangerous taking a motor from a salvage yard not being able to test or warranty its working ability. So if you do not have the skill to go through a motor in the yard then you should probably just take it to a nice local (4wd preferred) shop and have them diagnois and fix the problem... Sorry to not be a whole lot of help.

Fellow Okie's I need your help

As a back story I have an '02 4.0 TJ and a few weeks ago it started knocking. I had a couple people look at it and they can't figure out what's wrong. We took the valve cover off and they told me it wasn't the lifters. They believe it's much more serious and recommend an engine swap. So my questions are, Do yall have any idea of what could be wrong? and if I go with the engine swap where could I get a used one? I'm in dire need because my TJ is my daily driver. If it makes a difference I'm in southern OKC.
