|banks316||Ive had mine for a few months now. I run my 37's at 7psi on the rocks and trails with no issuse. On road its just as good as any other wheel I still go 80mph on the freeway with no issue. As for the tires....I ran Irocks, GY MT's, GY MTR/R's, GY MT/R's Kevlar, KM1, KM2's these are the best mix of on road and off road tires. There quite on the pavement and got good traction on rocks whether dry or wet.|

BirdDog & BAD Wheels
So did this conversation continue past April?
Conceptually the BAD Wheel - B.A.D. Wheels | Bead Assist Device Wheels | Bead Lock Wheels American made, solid and for those wheeling hard enough to honestly blow a bead, they're pretty stout!
The BirdDog Wheel - Interco BirdDog Wheels are pretty cool looking too! I'm not 100% sold on the Low Pressure Bead Seat Rib but as someone said earlier on this thread, they're better than the basic American Racing type or stock wheel.
Has anyone who wheels like the average weekender (not King of the Hammers) had any integrity issues with the BirdDog? I do Big Bear, Moab, TDS in So Cal and like I said, normal wheeling.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion, likes and dislikes on style & looks but when it comes to our families safety, I'm interested in structural integrity at 70mph on the highway or, 3mph when I'm 50 miles from civilization.
Personally I like the looks of both wheels but at half the cost, I really like the BirdDog for every day on and off road.
If Bonofied is reading this: How are the Rimrock tire deflators working on your BirdDog Wheels after your post back in December?

Personally, I'll take the Birddog for the following reasons:
1.) Listed weight is 28 lbs - basically no change from my stock wheel, but I can mount a larger/wider tire with no issues.
2.) My wife does not find the styling as objectionable as I do (they're not pretty), so she doesn't mind them.
3.) At around 200 dollars, they ARE expensive, but at least somewhat affordable. Less than what my stock wheels would cost me, actually, if I want to buy them new.
4.) I get a wheel that is more off-road friendly than my stock set.
Bottom line - if for some reason I start wheeling really, really hard and popping beads like nobodies business then a lot of things have changed in my life. At that point I'll add a set of internal bead locks (Stauns?) and be done with it.

B.A.D. Wheels Eklipse 17 Section

So I did some more research and ended up calling BAD Wheels to ask some questions. First of all, Kevin is a great guy and talked to me for quite some time. He explained the Eklipse 17 wheel in detail. I like the wheel a lot, it makes sense. I also found out that a new Phase-II version of the wheel is in the works for the mild to moderate wheeler & should be ready in late March as well. Same platform as the beadlock wheel, without the mechanical locking element, but it relies on some sort of enhanced bead retention surface. Sounds similar to the Birddog, but it still has the option to use the quick install rock rings. Best part is these will be priced $100 less than the full beadlock wheel. I’m looking forward to seeing a review on both of these wheels to see which one will work best for me, hope this helps for others who are in my shoes as well.
In regards to the birddog…are there any other guys that have those wheels with pics on a trail run they’d like to share?

The thing I think is cool about the BAD Wheel is that I can run without a ring on the street and still have a beadlock. Then on the trail I can put it on to protect the wheel. Also, the B.A.D. wheel comes with RAD deflators so no need to install those.
I've always thought I would end up with HMMWV or H1 wheels, but never wanted to be locked into a 16.5 tire. Plus, your tires options are limited and they are a steel 2 piece wheels design. The BAD wheel seems like once the tire is installed the bead is locked and you never have to worry about leaky wheels or maintaining 32 bolts for he life of your tire. It kind of makes sense in my mind. I was impressed on the new spin for a beadlock. Very inventive!
Pricing is listed on their site at $319.00. Cheaper than other true beadlocks.

I don't get the birddog wheel being any different that any other non beadlock wheel designed for offroad like the rock crawler steel wheels or black rock aluminum wheels other than a almost solid face, which I don't think is very attractive, and a second valve steam, which I like. 2 valve steam make sence, but I donlt like the location of the valve stems. They are almost on the lip of the rim. Seems a little vulnerable.
Another thing I like about the BAD wheel is that according to their site, its all USA made. I'd rather support USA job than over sea jobs any day!

HMMWV or H1 wheels are beadlocks and they have a DOT stamp on them.
I do like these, but have yet to find anything on pricing.

Personally, I'm really liking how easy it is to clean these Bird Dog wheels after a day on the trail. The outer lip which is left uncoated and unpainted in anticipation of being the first area to see rock rash was spot on as a design feature. Last weekend in area 52 near Alamo NV was tight and three of my four new wheels received some rash on the outer lips. If I decide that I want to bring them back a bit of fine sanding will fix them good as new. I don't think you can do that with many of the anodized cool looking wheels I've seen on the market.
One of my favorite features of the Bird Dog wheels are the dual valve stem locations. I installed a set a Rim Rock Rads tire deflators to one side. Using one side to monitor pressure and the other to rapidly air down my tire was VERY impressive when I can air down my 35" KM2's from 30 pounds to 7 pounds in less than 20 seconds. Airing back up with my Powertank was even faster then ever when I don't have to stop filling them to check the progress.

I was interested in the Birddog wheel and while doing some reaserach on them I came across a new wheel that is a beadlock and carries the DOT stamp. I'm not a huge fan of the looks of the birddog wheel. I don't like the solid dish look with tiny holes. Plus I wanted a true beadlock that I felt more comfortable driving on the road. I think I will be holding out for these.

I love my new Birddog wheels. They look great and have a lot of great features especially if you really wheel your ride. The dual valve stem locations are great and made better when you replace one side with a Rimrock Rad tire deflator. With this setup you can air down a 35" tire in about 20 seconds while monitoring the pressure on the opposite valve stem. Airing back up is also faster when you don't have to stop to check pressure while you are filling back up. Having street legal tires with a bead retention system is perfect for daily drivers that also like to go off road and know that airing down is required to get the most traction on the trail. Here are a couple of photos of my Jeep with the awesome Bird dog wheels. I think they are great.

My guess is about 155-175.00. We have made some changes in delivery and warehouse cost to keep pricing. Down, got your back on that one.wheels are to be released mid Oct to distributors. You call Interco and have Patti put you on the list for first ones and some very special pricing.
Petersen's reports they will be offered in 15x9, 16x9, 17x9, and 15x10 in either 3.5" or 4.5" backspacing in all popular bolt patterns.
So, no spacers and no illegal beadlocks (not that it matters in NM) and the ability to run low pressures.

Interco Birddog Wheel
Apparently Interco has a new DOT alloy wheel that is able to handle low pressures w/o popping a bead. I doubt they are as good as a real beadlock but for a daily driver they seem to be what I've been looking for. I found them on facebook, search for Interco Birddog Wheel. They just had a write-up in petersen's 4wd where I first read about them.
