First off, Welcome to Utah! I live just over the hills to the north of Lehi in Herriman.

Second, good luck skirting the inspection stuff unless you have a friend that runs an inspection shop. I bought my Jeep two weeks ago and the 33x12.50x15 tires have me putting on some Bushwacker flares and some mudflaps tomorrow so I can get it through inspection. Sucks, but I don't want to return it to being stock or close to it.

There was a set of flares on KSL.com in the classified section......Here is the link: Classifieds for Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming | ksl.com

Only $200. Call 'em. I just spent $400 for the same ones.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna make it to Moab this summer like I had originally planned. I still need to dump about $1500 into my Jeep before I begin to plan that trip.

What did you get a ticket for? You really gotta learn the tricks of the trade. I've been stopped 13 times and only have a seatbelt violation. Knock on wood.
speeding apparently.... it was on new years eve.. I was off interstate on some shortcut that i didn't see a single car for 3 hours of driving. so I gave it a little gas, and suddenly this cop came out of nowhere stick right up my ass..he showed me the speed gun that said I was going at 98 on a 65 highway.. so aint no tricks to pull that off.. lol.

Cwalch3 Sandy is nice. I would suggest living East of the Freeway wherever you end up, unless it's West or South Jordan, those places are nice too (when you find the right part of them)

sblindgren Welcome to Utah, I'm sure you will have a lot of fund in the Canyon's. There is a lot to do and the great thing is that its not very far to drive. Great Times, enjoy!

Kssting If you want to drive up North there is Hardware Ranch road by Hyrum and there are several good trails heading south out of Brigham City/Mantua. There is also Farmington Canyon and Skyline drive in Bountiful.

I was thinking about sending out an invite for next weekend (25th-26th) for a breakfast meet and greet in Brigham and then a run up Willard Peak trail if you want to run up there next weekend.
05-15-2013 09:08 PM
mrpotatohead So if I wanted to go explore some back country this weekend without flogging on my Jeep where would I go from south jordan?

Cwalch3 haha thanks Cunnart - I decided (kinda just like you said) that every faith/religion has its lame people and kook's - obviously you just see it a lot with the Mormon's out here cause UTah is populated strongly with them haha. TylerU - Ya pretty much. I just checked my policy online too, it's still has everything on my Jeep registered in Cali, yet my home and work and commute address in Utah. I'm hoping you have Geico. haha
05-03-2013 07:19 AM
Cunnart We'll be moving to Utah in a week as well. Don't worry about the mormons. As Cwalch3 said there are some jerks and there are nice people. Same thing you see everywhere with every religion. Mormons are just people, treat people how you want to be treated and if they are rude then ignore them, that's how I have lived my life.

Orem and Provo are the most populated. Salt Lake is definitely more liberal. you just gotta find the right people. they are out there! As far as Insurance, I just told Geico I had an Address update, they didnt ask if my license plate or actual license changed. I get mind pretty cheap too. So, I would just call your insurancem let them know you need to update your address... they shouldn't interrogate you or need anything else.

School wise - check Out SLCC (Salt Lake Community College) or MATC (assuming they have your trade. the great thing about out here, is they have a lot of Trade schools..

Rwill is right - it does grow on you - and that's coming from a Cali Farm girl from a small town.
so you ate saying, you can get the imsurance covered anywhere in the country?

Rwill8751 I'm from Chicago originally and I love it here now. This has been the place I have lived the longest since I was 17. It grows on you.

TylerU Ok, just called Utah DMV, they said i dont have to convert my license, but have to change title after 6 months, which takes 1 day with all the paperwork ready.

Now back to the goddamn insurance thingy. any fella students tell me how yall get insured going to school in another state.
04-25-2013 09:32 AM
TylerU i heard in salt lake is a lot more liberal, with all the college students, business and all. only 50% of the city pop are mormons.

But if you go to the suburb of Provo, dont be surprised that you are the only Nonmormon on the street. 90%+ there, no kidding....

But I dint think they are hostile people, probably just will try to convert you whenever you go. Only kiddos do thoses vandalizing, immature stunt.

Then again, that's what I heard while deciding if I should go to school in Salt lake..

PS: On my previous question: Ok so i got it I can drive with out of state license, but the problem is how do I get insured in Utah, with my MA license. Is that remotely possible?
04-25-2013 09:02 AM
mrpotatohead Let me ask this, how bad are the mormons in that area? My great aunt worked out there some years ago as a guard and claimed children threw rocks at her when she came home. I have a low tolerance for door to door Baptists as is and when it comes to religion I prefer to be left alone. Do I need to have Memphis May Fire and Devil Wears Prada on loop at my door?
04-23-2013 09:25 PM
Kssting Utah doesn't care that you have an existing license from another state so you are basically starting over. That includes a motorcycle endorsement if you have one. I still haven't changed my license over for that reason and so far it hasn't been an issue and that includes one harassment stop by a West Valley PD and an accident in my company vehicle.
04-22-2013 05:30 PM
TylerU CWalch:

thank i does help.

sounds like you lived in Utah as a student before.

what? they ask for birthcertificate for a license conversion? sounds like utah DMV is working with CIA...

another thing.. my biggest headache is out of state insurance.. how did you get it insured?
