|Surinamer||My problem turned out to be a loose wire, shorting out.|

same problem - 6 years later
Hi, having the same problem w/ 2006 Wrangler Unlimited. Did the ICM fix the problem for good? That might be our problem too.

|biblicone||After that I put in a Weber Carb. Now it idles great.|

|Greatwhite||Yup, swapped out the ICM, and it is doing well so far.... THX for the verification!!|

|biblicone||I had a similar problem (occasional starts...) and it was the Ignition Control Module. It is on the expensive side ($100 at autozone), but when the Jeep starts right up its worth it.|

Pretty sure the Coil is Good or No Good. (been there....cut out while driving..not to be restarted.)
Not sure about ignition module.
YES a "dirty", corroded, bad, electrical connection can be intermitent.

Ignition/coil/ICM question....engine quits
A week ago, while cruising at 45mph, the engine quit for about 5 seconds, dead...no response, and tach at zero. then just as suddenly, tach came back up and drove fine....perfectly.
This week it won't start one day in the garage at home, but then an hour later fires right up.
Yesterday drove to the grocery store and it won't start on leaving....plenty of fuel, but no spark as confirmed pulling a wire while cranking....
I got a tow home, and checked the wires to the coil for security, they were all tight, but after checking, on a whim I tried to start and it fired right up.
Removed the coil, did some resistance checks on it...passed.
I am hearing, and leaning toward an Ignition Control Module as the culprit....
QUESTIONS for the tech gurus':
Can a coil be intermittent, or is it a good/no good issue?
Can an ignition module be intermittent?
Can a dirty (not broken) wire be touchy enough to cause lack of power to coil?
I am loving the jeep for putting around, but at this point losing alot of faith in its dependability....tinkering and maintenance is normal, I understand, but being stranded is another issue....
