I love my manual 6sp.
But, with that said, one of the downfalls of having the manual is that you can't add the advance adapters Rubicrawler to it like you can with the automatic

Regrets? About what!?
I used the filter function on Auto Trader for 3 months to find my 2012 JKU in a manual. I, like many others here, think the manual is true to the spirit of jeep.
Just ask yourself why you're going with a jeep. Probably isnt luxury, speed, towing power, gas mileage, or any other number of things that other cars do better. It appeals to you because there is no substitute for a true jeep. Now what comprises that differs to some folks. To me it's a manual with a lift , bumpers, big tires, etc
If I wanted a more tame road machine I would've just gotten another late model Crew Cab truck.
Nothing wrong with an auto. Does hold a few advantages offroad. In reality most of us are 85% + on road so I would make my decision based on that. Driving to me is just more fun with a manual.
Across the history of transmissions, by and large, manuals have been simpler, lighter, more fuel efficient, and more reliable . Most heat build up goes to a clutch which is easily replaceable instead of the internals of the gear box. New autos are obviously reliable and strong. So don't think one is inherently superior based on build.
High end cars like the Lambo, Ferrari, etc have stuck with manuals over autos until recently with SMG dual clutch gearboxes.
Manuals are a dying breed and that's sad to me.I think I saw <30% of current wranglers are manual. Something to keep in mind down the road when your manual is more "rare" and "desirable" .
PS Owning a manual weeds out a lot of the would be "can I drive your jeep?" friends

If I was more off road oriented, I prob would have gotten the automatic. I'm just happy to have a wrangler finally. Wrangler envy was taking over every part of my life!! Wish I could afford an auto and a manual.
I have a friend or two in the DC area, and I've heard the nightmare traffic stories.

My personal opinion on this is that if you are on the fence, go with the auto. This is not what I did, because I am a diehard manual aficionado. I would not buy an automatic for myself. I just don't feel the level of engagement that I like when driving an auto. Much of a vehicle's personality, to me, is contained in how you interact with the drivetrain via a manual tranny.
With that said, the manual on the JKs can be a little reluctant and tricky to drive smoothly at times, and shifting quickly feels like you are abusing it a bit. If you have driven manual trucks before and liked them (domestic trucks; imports don't count!), you will probably like the JK shifting.
For me though, no regrets.

My 13 is an auto, and I often wish I'd gotten std. I do drive in quite a bit of city traffic though-I'd probably have gotten tired of it (that's what I tell myself anyway)

In the traffic in my neck of the woods a nice easy dual clutch would be needed to make it manageable. Had one in my Cobra that was feather light but held 600rwhp.

|genesbro||With the manual when you are in 4lo it lets you just idle along without even having to touch the gas pedal. I have the 4.10 and it can even climb pretty steep hills without touching the gas, Love the manual.|

|LewdDude||none! to me, manual is just automatic!!!! LOL this is jeep #2 and both have been manual 6 speeds. This '13 JK sahara has the nicest manual I have ever driven. It's a personal thing though. Do what you feel works for you. You can put the automatic in low gear and it will stay there so you can off road with the best of them. There is no wrong answer here.|

|Binx||I love/loved my manual in my 12jk until it decided to eat itself in the first dew thousand miles. My loaner has the auto and its actually pretty nice. The next one I get will probably be an auto unless they change the manual transmission to something more reliable.|

|Trek7.2FX||I've only once regretted a manual, when I was driving my Hyundai in DC traffic. Where I live in Ohio, not so much. Here I would regret an auto. I love driving a manual Jeep. Being a younger guy, I enjoy it. Seems like once some people get to a certain age, they only want autos. To each their own.|

|TxJprs||My wife wanted me to get a manual. I hadn't had one for a few vehicles, test drove one and thought yeah it would be fun again. So when I ordered my 2012 JKUR, I got a manual. I've pretty much regretted it more than I have enjoyed it. So much so that I am seriously considering trading in on 2014 when they one out in a few months. I'm tired of shifting so damn much. If I ever get a sporty car again, I might do a stick, but I want an auto in my jeep and shouldn't of listened to the wife on that one.|

I've never been in so much traffic that I just didn't think I wouldn't be able to go another inch if I had to press the clutch again. I've previously had 3 manual speed trucks, and a manual speed mustang cobra that made 535 rwhp.
Although I bought a 6sp manual with my JK, I am also pressed with the 5 speed automatic (no experience with the 4 speed auto). I can see advantages to both and would be happy with either one. There may be times, even if briefly, that you would like to have both. For me, I just knew mine was the one when I drove it.

Both have there ups and downs. And I never found city driving in a manual hard or the least bit taxing.
My jk is bare bones and a 6sp and I love it. My gf's jku is more optioned and an auto, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

|jondotcom||it may be a law, I'm not sure, Wranglers should have 2 doors, a cloth top and stick shift, thats what my 2012 is equipped with, I've owned 17 Jeeps in my lifetime and only ONE was a boring auto, just my opinion.....|

^ thats me there man... I drove a stick all my life until a few years ago. I pulled a nerve in the back of my right shoulder and had to commute 58 miles each way, without my right arm. I forced myself to shift with it and did not like the outcome lol.
Given that, I have to drive an auto. Even 8 years after the injury if I drive a stick for one day, my shoulder will kill me for 3 days to follow.

I REALLY wanted to get a manual, but a few things came into play:
-City Driving and lots of it.
-Wife/daughter can't drive a manual (no jokes please).
-3 shoulder surgeries and now awaiting a total replacement surgery. Life would have been that much harder.

|UnJKlimited||My 2010 was a auto and I regretted it within a month of driving it off the lot. When I got my 2012 I got the 6 speed and couldn't be happier with it. If you're thinking you want a manual then you'll regret not getting it. At least that was my experience.|

|Binx||Still love the manual but rethinking the auto thing since the only issues seem to be coming from the manual transmission. Having mine replaced now so I may get the auto on the next one. I'll determine that when I get it back and it was just bad luck on my part.|
