|Plowboy1970||Thanks for the update. There are allot of starting problems with these Jeeps. And for later problems it is nice to know what really fixed it. Hope all your problems are solved.|

|Storm117||Tracked it down to the steering column. Apparently it was the module that the ignition and ignition module plug into on the far left. I think it was not getting a proper connection because fiddled with it and got the jeep going. No issues so far, been driving it since last Sunday, now Wednesday. Keep an eye on it. Thanks for the help guys.|

|carlosfangdango||Sound like something is draining the battery as a new one was good and you get a morning start but not an afternoon. Take the battery out and charge it up overnight. When you put it back in if you get the battery terminal to arc you have a current draw. Find all the always hot fuses and pull the first one, now try connecting the battery again. If there is no arc that's the circuit with your problem. Keep going until you have found them all. If could be something simple like the interior lights always on or a collapsed relay. If you find the circuit with the issue we should have only a doz of items to check|

Assuming no broken, corroded wires:
Try starting it in N instead of P to check the neutral safety switch.
Also, check ignition switch actuator pin.

|Storm117||Hey guys, update. Replaced the battery and alternator this morning and it started right up. Went out a few hours later, 3pm amps were good, went to start and the starter didn't even click. Eliminated two of the possible problems, couple hundred later.|

|DocterWrangler||Spray the exposed portion of the wire with liquid electrical tape. Thats the best and cheapest place to start. If its not properly grounding that would explain it|

|Storm117||Not at all. Good and tight, no buildup on the battery. Replaced alternators and batteries in the past but never experienced this. The only issue I can think of is combined problems. Multiple issues leading to this. And the only wire it could be would be the smaller black one that clips onto the starter, the ground?|

|Storm117||Yeah, took it to my local AutoZone. Not my fav place, he did the check and said everything was fine. Explained the issue to him and he suggested a wiring problem. But I could only find that one wear.|

|larjeep||If u need to jump it over n over then your alternator is not working. U can go to any local parts stroe and have them test the charging system takes 1 min to do. Then u will know for sure and then replace what's needed only.|

Tj starting issues
Hey guys. Had my 06 Tj sport 4.0, auto tranny, 86 k . No problems until this. No electrical upgrades unless you count removing the stock spare retainer. Before, it was just the battery, I'd jump it and it'd run fine. I could leave it for 20 or so and come back and it'd start, no problem. Longer than 40 mins and usually it needed the jump. Then, a recent development. In the morning, I can usually get the starter to click. In the afternoons, or after its been running for abit, the starter won't engage at all. Tried jumping it, still nothing. Also tried the solenoid trick on the starter, still nothing. Replaced my 40 amp fuse and that wasn't it. Can't tell if I need to replace the starter and battery, alternator, or maybe wiring. I've chased down most wires and the only damage I see is a little wear with wire exposed on a small black wire that clips into the starter. Wouldn't trouble ya'll with this but I'm on a pretty tight budget and wouldn't want to spend money on something that doesn't need replacing just yet. Also, auto electric isn't my strongest suit, so I apologize for any vagueness. Thanks for any good ideas or help.
