UPDATE!

Since my first payment is 60 days from loan approval, the start of the loan remains the same whether I order or buy off lot. I'm going through USAA's car buying service and the dealer found the exact Sahara I configured to order in Houston. I'm in Dallas, so the dealer is trailering it up today. I'm getting a white Sahara with color matched hard top, connectivity, 3.73, anti-spin diff, and leather with heated seats. MSRP is $37,900, the USAA price plus my military incentive is $34,400. All in all I might could have haggled lower but getting that price was painless, so I'm happy!

I pick her up Friday night!

How does it work if you have a trade in also. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram that is my dd and want to trade it with the sale. Do they just appraise it like any other sell just when the order jeep comes in. Or do they work out all the financing and trade in when you order the Jeep?

Like was posted before, go ahead and have them assign a value to it, on paper, when you make your order. I did that, and the fleet manager just asked "what are your average miles per week". I'm trading a newish, low mileage vehicle, so in my case, I'm not about to cross a mythical "value line" in miles anyway, so I don't think the few miles I put on it in the 4-6 weeks are a big deal -- neither do they.

I did this before, many years ago, and was rear ended on my way to the dealer to watch them unload the new, built to order vehicle from the carrier. I just got a copy of the trade work up, insurance paid the difference caused by the fender bender, and all was good.

Not sure if there is a "standard" format for how it is done, but if you get appraised in advance, with the understanding that you will trade it in when the Jeep arives, I would make sure to get something signed and in writing.
Gotcha.

TX95YJ My 2013 Sahara took 40 days from ordering it to dealership delivery. Not bad, it really went by quick it seemed. It gave me time to get my cash together and pay the balance due after trade. She's all mine.

Order time

It's ironic that I just placed my order for a Rubicon tonight. It was my fastest and least painless transaction at any car dealer. In an out in 70 minutes.
The dealer stated that it could take up to 6 was but he feels confident it will arrive in 4ks. I saw on the order form a code for "sold" and asked him what that was about and he said that meant sold to a customer who is now waiting for their car and not just for the dealer to have one sitting in his showroom. Therefore that code will expedite it and push it to the top of the production run.

I went hard after my dealer on the value I wanted for my trade, got them to meet me there, and then got a signed copy of the purchase order that clearly spelled out my trade. Granted, I am not sure if it is a legally-binding document under every (or any) scenario, but they indicated they would honor it when I talked to them last week.

I think the OP said he was turning in a lease, but the advice is still relevant to anyone else that might be reading.
Not a Jeep lease... A Honda employee lease. I recently sold my Dodge Ram and VTX Motorcycle, the Honda lease was to just get me by until my bike sold. Now that its all sold, I'm going to get my Jeep with a fat down payment. I'll turn the Honda back over in July, and my financing won't start for 60 days, so I can order a build or just get one now. Waiting to her back from the dealer about one a few hours away at another dealer..

I got the same thing when trying to order an MT JK Rubicon in late March.

One of the forum sponsor Jeep dealers replied on the thread (when I asked) that the "restricted" would be lifted on that order on a certain day and he was correct. So I assume that means your dealer should know what's what.

A few days later, I had the order in. I think they do them in batches though. So if you hit a sweet spot, your time to shipping is faster. (I don't have any proof, but just prowling the various waiting rooms it appears that way, and it makes sense.)

I'm in D-1, so that's like purgatory.

+1, I had dealers make it seem like what they had on the lot was the last Jeep on earth just to make me pull the trigger faster. I called their bluff every time and waited until i found exactly what i wanted.

Finshing up a sale of a custom car in the next couple of weeks... So after that will be in the market for a Jeep. Pretty set on what color and options I want. Plus I plan on putting 8-10k down on it.
Now a 10A could be a little different, i know that there was a hell of a backlog on those pre-orders. They're really starting to crank them out now, from what i see. Plus if you are looking at a few more weeks to sell your other car and be ready to order some more of the hoopla might be past...
There is info on the Forum that basically will provide you with "invoice pricing" of your spec'd Jeep, exactly how you want to order it. This will be a good negotiating tool...although , again with a 10A i don't know if your negotiating power maybe be totally different....
When i ordered i had a spread sheet with 2 columns..column 1 was MSRP on the base Jeep AND all of the individual options and column 2 was INVOICE pricing on the base Jeep and all the individual options...so at the bottom of the columns i had the TOTAL MSRP and TOTAL INVOICE price of MY JEEP..how i wanted it built.. i was loaded with amo and had plenty of back up to use incase they tried to over charge me.
In the end i got it for about 2% under invoice along with a few perks, i was happy.

I walked in with a print out i did on my own computer, listing everything i wanted and handed it to the saleman so it could be use as a check list...you don't wanna forget something when ordering....
I gave them a deposit, i gave $2,000 although i don't think that much was required, but i knew I'd be putting down more then that so i'd just roll it in... they told me the deposit was completely refundable, if i changed my mind. They said they would just put the Jeep on the lot for sale.
I didn't sign anything, we agreed to a price, he jotted down all the terms on a sheet of paper, including perks and photo copied it and i went home and waited. I didn't sign anything until the Jeep came in.
My experience was nearly identical, including the dealer searching in vain for something close to what I wanted. I used the Jeep website to spec out everything, printed it and took it to the dealer.

Best of luck, let us know how it goes!
