I love the Defenders! They are not cheap, but they are a nice product. The only thing I wish was an option was a one-piece design, with the inner and outer fenders being one piece. That would just simplify things and clean up some of the bolts.

I was hoping to get out on a trail this weekend, but we were busy buying my wife a new car and working on my buddy's 2015 F-250 (he wants it set up just like mine, with the addition of some other goodies).

my wife's 'new' ride....

The full outfit of Recon lights (mirrors not pictured)....

TXST8tj Happy to share! It's part of the fun.

I love the Baja RS seats. They are extremely comfortable and really 'hug' you while driving. The black cloth fabric has faded to a purple look for some reason, but Corbeau is sending me new covers.

At some point, I would love to do a 5.3L Vortec swap, but for now I just want to see how far I can get with what I have.
My next big move is likely a built d44 front to kinda tie up that loose end in the strength department.
With a V8, 1-tons should come into play as well as much larger tires. At which point a major suspension overhaul would also need to happen.
Making the 4cyl work really sounds good when you are being honest about it.

Dieselholic Man this has been one of the most drastic jeep changes I have read in a while. Thanks for sharing. How are you likeing the baja rs's? I have the moabs but a friend wants them and I want a suspension seat. Also any plans to do anything with the 4cly?

TXST8tj Parents went to Moab again. Keeping the kids stylin'!

TXST8tj This is true. More concerned about having the back end beefed up.

It's no worry, I have plenty of other things still to do/install.
07-29-2014 01:49 PM
erickpl I can imagine with moving things will be in disarray for a while. But the back half is solid for your precious back seat cargo.

I still have not installed the front portion of the new cage (still in a box in the garage), but will hopefully get to it before too long. My buddy that is going to weld it up recently moved into their new house, so he has a few other things on his plate besides welding my cage.

TXST8tj I finally finished bolting everything back on. Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to drive it any; however, I most certainly will as soon as I get back town.
I am happy the fenders are at least primered, but I seriously cannot wait to get the jeep painted.

Nothing specific. Just damp rag with a little soap.

I just had to email my rep some pictures. I already told him about yours. He said it was strange that we were both having the issue.
He said that the fabric that comes on our seats has a lower 'color fastness' because of the design of the seat. Why that is, I'm not sure.

He said that one possibility of them fading so quickly is that excessive water will wash the 'color fastness' out faster. I know mine have sat through a rain storm a time or two, but I dunno...

He did offer to send me all vinyl instead of the cloth/vinyl, but I explained that would be a skin death wish here in Texas.

Although it lives it's life in the garage, I am considering ordering some of the "seat saver" covers just in case it sits out outside for an extended amount of time.

erickpl Dougzin, nope. Only thing I've used is a dust rag to get dirt off, then brush it a bit. Then I use some water with just a hint of soap.

Thanks! I have high hopes. Can't wait to find time for it. This is the exact reason I have not bothered to get a spare tire/wheel yet.

Thank you! Good luck with your Jeep search!

This is a poor 'paint' rendition of what it will look like.

A quick look at how the brackets will sit. These will be trimmed a bit and will be found at all four corners.

These are the DOM tube and poly bushings that go in the link mounts and act as the hinge. The passenger side is bolted, the drivers side gets hitch pins for removal to open carrier.

Backside coming together.
You will notice the holes on the driver's side that compliment the holes on the passenger side. That will be the location of the tire carrier mounting brackets.

Are you going with a Poison Spyder tire carrier, or Gen-Right? That's what it looks like with all those holes.

Very cool. Now I have not lost hope in my TJ being that this has been a 4 year transformation and is still not completed.

Subbed for sure.
