TJspeed Could be a transmission mount. Mine did something similar and my transmission mount was in 2 pieces. New mount and the noise went away.

98 engine noise when accelerating

I have a 98 Wrangler 4 cyl automatic with some troublesome noise.
When I accelerate over 1500rpms a ticking/knocking/clacking noise starts up.
The strange thing is that the noise doesn't happen when I am in park it only happens while I am driving. Simply revving the engine while in neutral also does not create the sound.

Any thoughts?
