I used to run 2 sets of wheels and tires. My jeep was lifted 6 inches at the time though. A set of pro comp steel wheels were my off road rim with a set of Dunlop radial mud rovers. They were cheap at the time but, this was 5 years ago when I had my TJ. I am now running a JKU.
The only pain was changing them back and forth and storing the other set when I wasn't wheeling.

Thinking of two sets of wheels/tires
I have a very good set of street tires (with an open tread style, so it's not entirely incapable offroad) on a YJ with stock everything. I do not at this time intend to lift or modify it, but would like to have rubber that handles mud and sand better than my current set.
I'm thinking of buying a set of cheap but sturdy steel wheels and tires to go on them that are offroad-first, with little to no concession for road use. When I want to go play in the woods, I put on the offroads, when I want to use it running the highway, the factory alloys with the road tires comes back on.
Is it worth it to do so without lifting?
If I do it, should I get spacers as well to widen the stance?
Has anyone else done this, and what were the benefits and drawbacks?
Which wheels are the cheapest, but also not going to fall apart under moderate offroad usage?
What tires would you recommend?
