|NYRUBI2004||Replaced the rear brake line hoses. Besides the fact that no one stocks them locally. Not even the dealership. Drove three hours to quadratec. The only place that had them. That was the easy part. Got to love rust. NOT!!!|

Remove plastic console .. then remove three screws from 4x4 cover plate.
this gives you access to the shifter cotter pin. pull the lever into 4w Low then remove cotter pin, and tension spring. then simply slip the shifter out.
Now the hardest part is getting the 4wd plastic handle off the rod. use a razor knife and chop and cut it off. Then heat up the rod and bend the top part strait
. once that is done you need to be able to weld. I got a 6 inch bolt of the same with , cut off the head and had it welded to shifter. Then the only thing you have to buy is the knob which is your choice. Mine cost about $20 but some can be as low as 6. I wanted mine to match the gear shifter. Now to make both of my shifters look fatter i took heater hose and placed it over both sticks then taped them with electrical tape, Put the shifter back in hook up spring, put in cotter pin reinstall guide (gate) plate then install console again. It works great and I wonder why the factory didnt come this way
If you have any more questions let me know

|quantumracer||Drove her to class today. She's normally VERY well mannered on the road, but today I had an unusual amount of bump steer. I think I'll check my tire pressure, then crawl around the front and see if something needs attention. I've had my currie correct-link for a couple of years without any issues.... I'll work it out tomorrow. I can't wait to get the top off this rig and go for a ride. Should be nice enough within a week.|

My 50th Birthday Present from Me, today + a few!
A few months ago I realized I have never owned a Jeep...wanted one at 15, rented one in Maui for my 40th B-Day, drove my brothers. A few friends sold their bikes and bought Jeeps "with age comes a cage". Decided to gift myself one for my 50th.
Found this one: lady owned, high miles, rebuilt motor, mall cruiser, clean!
Bought it! Wife had a "melt-down" did not speak to me for 4 days...which gave me un-interrupted time to read mags, books & inter-web reviews, and to decide what I wanted to do. "it's better to beg for forgiveness, than ask for permission"
Bought all of this, and then some. My credit card bill was bigger than the wifes. She had melt-down #2 (more silent treatment) another good thing. Buddy, Neil and I spent 2 weekends and a few late nights, wrenching, fixing, cleaning, adjusting, wiring, greasing and hammering all of the above parts into place, and finished it just in time for the "Big Five-Ohhh!"
And here it is! Drives way nicer than it did when I got it, better road manners, clearances, steering, lighting, braking, shifting, exhaust tones, inside tunes, and recovery tools.
The wife finally went for a ride in it, more silent treatment! I hope she will get happy when a stack of 33's and some beadlocks are found surrounding the Christmas Tree.
Thanks for the help: Rob, Dirk, Roger, Neil and Ryan.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good ride!
