|bgbdbari||Oh wow, I didn't even think of that. I ended up finding out that mine was the rear differential, the side bearings ate through the race and was destroying it self.... Found that one out the hard way when it locked up on me. Expensive mistake on my behalf, I hope yours is a more gentle repair.|

|037jeff||I have similar sound. I have an 05 Rubicon LJ with 28k miles. Took it to a mechanic today thinking it is possible a pinion gear. The mechanic said its in the transmission, possibly a tranny bearing. I take it in tomorrow to a trans shop. Keeping my fingers crossed its not too much money.|

Well here is an update, I took out the front driveshaft and drove it and unfortunately the sound is still there.

Thanks for the help.
I think that is great place to start and I think I might try taking the driveshaft out and take a closer look and maybe drive it with it out and see if that is truly the noise.
OK I get it, yeah I checked the fluid and it still looks as clean as it did before, I changed the front diff fluid about 10,000 miles ago but it was a great place to start.
I'll keep you informed and maybe I can figure it out. Thanks for all your help

|Zurn||Nothing to add on your issue but it did remind me of a motorcycle I use to have. Whenever I got over 120 mph I would get this loud screeching sound. The odd thing is it only happened when my now ex was riding passenger.....|

the shop said it was my whole driveshaft. he saved the old one for me since he said if i ever get into a bind, i could still use it, but there was play....im not sure if he just meant the joints or if there was a problem with something else.
check the fluid condition. pull the plug & see if there are metal shavings in it. or if it's very dirty/black. might not be a bad idea to just change the fluid in them.

|crazykosmo||I've got this same noise/vibration in my 05 LJ. It seems to quiet down/smooth out at 55mph. Driveshaft would make sense, but 29k seems a little early for it?|

The driveshaft really? well that is great way to start. Did you have to replace the entire driveshaft or just the u-joints?
Check the fluid for binding? I guess I am not sure how to check that

|Ebxgsxr||mine had a noise very similar & it was the driveshaft. have you checked the fluid in the differential for the binding?|

Humming noise at 35 to 45 under load
Alright just like most of the post, I am new to Jeeps and had mine for about 1 year now and I just want to know if somethings I have noticed is normal or something that I need to worry about.
First I'll start off with I have a 2006 LJ Rubicon 6speed with 80,000 on it with a 3.5 Rubicon Express lift with 33's, tires are good and had an alignment and all that good stuff done after instal, adjustable track bar and sway bar disconnects. New fluids in front, rear, t-case, and transmission with no abnormal metal flakes or anything.
So the first thing I noticed is that there is a humming noise that sounds like it is coming from the center of the jeep in the front, that comes at 35 to 45 when you are maintaining speed, if you accelerate it goes away if you slow down it becomes more quite, it is also more noticeable when it is warm or has been driven for awhile or when it is hotter outside. It made this noise before the lift and still makes it after it. The weird thing is that before the lift it was more high pitch and after the lift it is a lower pitch. It has done it with 3 different sets of tires. Any ideas??
The second thing is that I noticed that since it has been getting cooler outside that when I have been making sharp turns at parking lot speeds that there is a binding feeling, kinda like if it is in 4WD even though it is not. I was wondering if that is normal, maybe have something to do with the above problem?
I have shaken down the front end for ball joints, wheel bearings and tie rod/ steering parts and didn't find anything loose, checked drive shafts and there was not additional movement.
Thanks in advance for all the advise and new ideas
