ClayR I bought a BMW motorcycle because I don't care about what anybody thinks about how I spend my money. If I did, I would have bought an American brand. There isn't a BMW store within 200 miles of me. Same goes for my Jeep, don't care. I like the look of a painted top, but I wanted as little paint on my JKR as possible. Less to repair for me. And I will replace my oem fenders with black powder coated Metal Cloaks when I can. To each their own.

How about a Super Liner top? We did one for a customers top they bought at a salvage yard and had a bunch of scratches in it. It looks pretty good in white. Tough as nails too. If I jack mine all up I may do that as well.

BILLET SILVER I have a BILLET SILVER (reflects heat) matched top, fenders, and the optional black soft top...so I have a choice..black soft tops are sun magnets and loud...you don't see black tents in the desert faded black fenders and bumpers are no fun to keep looking black.

I doubt I will ever use my black soft top...personal preference.
For what's its worth....

Rocjeepn Had mine painted to match.... Love the look with black flares!

Silverback51 When I retire we are going to move somewhere warm. We wanted a color that reflected the heat instead of a black top that absorbs the heat.

ADee1 I like the look of all one color, depending on the color, black works real good with a lot of the Jeep colors too. What I don't like is the price, so due to that I won't be ordering it.

Toby Vanderbeek I ordered a JKU Polar. One of the reasons I liked it so much is the matching hard top and fender flares. To each, his or her own.

AlmostAlaska Honestly i thought i wanted a black top as i loved my forrest green tj with a black hard top but then i found my jk white with matching hardtop and love though i think if the black bumper and wheels it would be too much

Kthulhu For me it depends on the color. I personally like the contrast with the black top and fenders but I think billet looks good with color matched tops. I've got an anvil with black top and fenders but I did see a Sahara in anvil with color matched and it looked pretty good. One of the other posts nailed it though. The color matched jeeps don't look like off road vehicles to me. They look more like regular suv's. That being said; to each his own. It's your money and it's your jeep. Do what ever YOU like to it.

MRT2 This thread is like Jeep Politics!

(That and everybody knows that matched fenders/hard-top are WAAAY better looking than others) lol

Read on if you so desire:

For the record, body-colored or unpainted fenders are a toss-up IMO.
BUT, every single JK Unlimited was designed to look better with a body-colored top! The C-pillar is distractingly incomplete (too thin) without it. For those who insist that the unpainted top "breaks up" the color, it sure does - in a very unflattering way. The tires, bumpers, and windows do PLENTY of "breaking up" of the color. If I owned a JKU with an unpainted hardtop, it would be heading straight to the paint shop for a body-colored top. And if having an unpainted hardtop is "more Jeep-like", then I guess I care about too much about design aesthetics (pass the caviar, Blair... ha ha)

And I'm gonna take it another step further: The extra $1K for the factory body-colored top easily adds $10K to the look of the JKU. Want to make your JKU look $10K LESS expensive? Easy... go with the unpainted top. JKU Sport buyers can go on-and-on about trail scratching this-and-that, mall-soccer-moms and Hummer-wannabes that-and-this, but the bottom line is if you park 'em next to each other, I bet that 95% of folks would pick the body-colored top if cost was not an issue - just like a MacBook with more memory. A body-colored top will likely help your resale value in the long-run.

And that's my $0.03. A good ol' Peace to ALL Jeepers and their hardtops, painted and unpainted! (What do they say? Opinions are like a**holes - everyone's got one.) Cheers!

Don't give them any ideas.

MRT2 Chocolate or Vanilla? How can that be argued?

However trends can be shown... Coming from the OffRoad Expo in SoCal (Pomona '13) AND pictures of show Jeeps (JK) and trail Jeeps coming from this years SEMA; it's safe to say that nearly all those rigs HAVE body colored fenders and/or tops. No doubt about it. (I would say 9 of 10 of them do). That's a fact.

When I first started looking at Wrangler's in the summer of 2011, that was by far my #1 choice. Too bad that color was cut short by the tsunami.
Winter Chill was another one that I just loved....but that non Arctic window was only open for about 17 minutes.
That was my same color choice logic. We ended up settling gecko after missing those two. A little different! There is a sahara tan rig near us that I am always eyeballing. New best color: hydro.

tomthbomb Here's a novel idea, if you like it buy it. If you don't like it don't buy it.
Methinks thou dost protest too much. Remorseful for your choice or maybe budget?

I think it just depends on the color and what you want to do with the Jeep. I also looked at Flame Red and Dozer, but neither were available when I ordered my 2013 in October of 2012. If I would have gone with one of those colors, I would have ordered a black top....better contrast. Other colors I could have gone either way.

Gunner I like the look of matching because I want to do the military look.
11-04-2013 04:46 PM
spinlock I like the full painted look on some colors but the painted parts show scratches and dings more. You can touch up the textured black top even with a sharpie. IMO, the matte textured finish of the non painted tops is more maintenance free from a top removal and off-roading perspective.

If I'd thought of that I'd probably have a Sahara now instead of a Sport S.
I didn't mind the color matched fenders, but I really wanted a black top on my Commando Green JKU!

Cascadian They look nice on certain colored Jeeps, but I'd ruin a painted hard top and painted fenders fairly quickly. Trails in Western Washington are tight with a lot of overgrowth.

JeepKing410 I dislike the body color top jeeps. Makes it look more so like a hummer. And also shows more scratches. Black keeps the ''jeep'' in it.

dgsholar When I wheel at off road parks, I get into too many tight places to have a colored top. Often I get "pin striping" from the branches and bushes that just don't really bother the black top (more like a battle badge)!

So I vote for black, at least for those that wheel and mod their Rubicon!

SoCarJeep I have the black on black sahara. It does not look like a Jeep Wrangler until the summer, when I change to soft top. Looks great at the Mall, though. LOL. Its a different look, but you get use to it. People thing its a second car when I switch tops. Loving it.. It does take a lot of care not to damage color keyed.

I agree. I went out of my way to find one that had the black non color matched top. To me the black top is what says Wrangler, be it a hard or soft top.

I felt the color matched started making it look like a Hummer too much.
