I have a 10s corvette C5 with a 427 LS2 that is crazy fun on the street!
wrangler is fun for off road stuff but yeah cool top off doors off driving around.

Street legal dirtbikes beat it.....mostly on the dollar part. 6000 for a brand new top of the line one. 200 for a bottom of the line beater......you can get them registetrd for street use pretty easy here...
Jeeps are expensive. Even the beater will be after you start modding it. 30 grand for a new one.
Jeeps are a lot more useful. And you can get a beater cj with a small block chevy and 33s for 2500.

|live_slow||On four wheels, I don't know for sure (no Wrangler yet) but on the street an S2K (no longer made by Honda) or a Miata are very very high on the bang per buck scale. I often miss my AP2 S2K. On two wheels, I really dig the dual-sport/enduro/Dakkar/motard style bikes and was really considering going back to motorcycles. But, nope. Going for the JK for now.|

I rode the wheels off a BMX bike when I was 10. This was back in the day when the kids were booted from the house in the summer and told to be home by dinner. First real freedom.
Kids sadly cant do this anymore.
But I'm guessing the OP was thinking of vehicles since this is a Jeep forum. My first real car was a real POS, but it was mine! Woot!
And it had a big back seat.

|Commodore Perry||I had a Cayman S, most amazing car I've driven but with shi**y roads, traffic, speed limits you can't ever really enjoy it fully except at the track and never enough time for that. I sold it and I miss it sometimes but I honestly have more fun in the Jeep.|

So I'm going to go a different direction than comparing to a road vehicle. I've had my 1997 Ski Nautique for about 8 years now. Paid $16,500 for it in 2005. I could sell it today for $13,000 easy. Maybe even $14,500. It's given me a lot of joy over that eight years. I'll probably upgrade to a newer one when she hits about 20, so she's got several more years of joy in her.
Don't get me wrong. I love my wrangler, but I view them as pretty expensive.

|SouthTJ||I had a 71 Olds 442 Convertible that was pretty damn fun too. I couldn't go off road but I had the wind in my hair and it got a lot of attention. I sold it and my daily driver and got a TJ 10 years ago and haven't looked back since. Love my Jeeps!|

|mcdull||It's totally very personal. I think my Miata is better fun per dollar than my JKU. I prefer driving twisty mountain roads than driving rough trails. And at least it takes me 12 seconds in holding down a button to open or close the hard top, it doesn't need 3 men to take off a 130lbs thing to get the open air (some probably will argue they can do it alone... I'd rather not to hurt myself)|

Oops, Omar sidetracked me.
My JK was in place of a motorcycle... I have ridden dirtbikes since I was 8, and streetbikes since I was old enough to have a license. It has gotten to the point where I'm no longer comfortable on the street. Traffic around me has become atrocious and every other person is dicking around on a cell phone instead of watching the road.
Maybe I'll get over it, but I felt like I had to be on such high alert while riding that it took most of the fun out of it. I still have a dirt bike, which I'll own until I'm too feeble to throw a leg over it!

That is really cool, Omar... The US got an older version of the Jimmy renamed Samurai in the mid 80's to early 90's. They went to the Sidekick (Escudo elsewhere according to Wikipedia) later, but I think it was only offered as a soft top for a couple of years.
Don't see many Samurai on the road, but still see some hardcore trail rigs. Still see Sidekicks a few times per week. Suzuki recently tried to come back into the US market with cars, but I think it pretty much failed.

Had a Suzuki Jimny before my Wrangler, not so cool as a Wrangler but cost half and have much better turningcircle than a Wrangler. Has become a popular overlanding vehicle in South Africa.
Sadly Suzuki do not put so much in to this model, have not changed so much under 14 years but cost half of a Wrangler and works like a baby Wrangler. The make them in Brazil and in Japan.
Here in Sweden Suzuki do not sell them anymore due to lack of ESP.

For about 20 years I road two (2) wheelers, BSA, Triumph, Norton and several Harley's and they were a lot of fun. Next came my 1974 CJ5 Renegade, with a 304 v8, 3spd manual and warn locking hubs, LSD rear diff. Back then you ran tru-trac tires, that Jeep would go any place you pointed it, but it was really squirrely on highway at high speeds. Next I purchased a Polaris Ranger 700 and a Polaris RZR 800. Then I got a 2003 TJ Wrangler x, a great little Jeep and now the 2013 Rubicon. They all were and are a lot of fun. I am also looking forward to removing my hard top for the summer.
There are no words that can describe looking up at the sky as the wind hits you in the face as you wheel down the road, it is just great!!!

|JandS||Good point on the sport bikes. If you're wanting to get the most speed per dollar, there is simply no comparison. A sport bike can easily embarrass $300,000 cars in a straight line.|
