cmitcham oops, the op doesn't have the forum set up to email him when there is activity on his thread...

i did get the harness. i forget now, but i'm pretty sure it plugs in 1 side only. when i finally went out to install it, i found the previous owner (well the uhaul people) had installed a harness in the bed and had coiled it up and stuck it behind the rollbar

so i have a brand new in package harness that i don't need. if anyone sends me their address, and paypals me $5 to cover shipping, i'll send it their way.

Jerry Bransford 7-way is for a 7 wire round connector for use with trailers with electric brakes. You can also use that style connector with an adapter for standard 4 wire flat trailer connectors.

Trailers with electric brakes also require an electronic brake controller be installed into the Jeep.

For most smaller trailers that won't often have their own brakes, the standard 4 wire flat trailer connector is what you want.

Did you get it to work?

I'm hoping the OP will see this and come back and comment. I need to wire up my '05 Rubi LJ and want to order the correct harness the first time.

cmitcham, what did you end up going with (brand name and part #), and did you just have to T into the driver's side only? I'm looking at the Hopkins #42625 or the #42635. If you go to Hopkins' website and put in '05 Wrangler you get the option of with or without factory 7 way. I don't know what this means.

Thanks,
Chris

Jerry Bransford The trailer wiring harness for my '97 plugged into both sides but the harness for my '04 only plugged into one side.

monkeee2002 The one I used plugged only into the right side tail light, to provide a fully functional trailer lighting setup. It worked just fine. I coated the T with liquid electrical tape, to keep out moisture / corrosion.
Mine's a 99, and iirc, they switched it to the left at some point (02 maybe?)

jackadf Don't know if Rubicons are different, but this is what I used for my 97 TJ. Hope it helps.

trailer wire harness, one more time please

i hope to order a plug in harness tonight for my 05 rubi unlimited.

i see the
"Wiring T-One Connector" harness at several places for about $24. several places describe teeing in the connectors behind each taillight.

my question arises because of the "
TAP Plug-In Simple! Wiring Kit for 2005 Jeep Wrangler, Model# 32625" at northern tool. this one seems to claim to get all the connections from behind the driver side taillight including the green wire.

can anyone confirm that the northern tool product is correct and it doesn't need a second tee behind the passenger side light?

thanks for any help.
