Thanks for your words of concern. Your input and the rest have me re-think this whole thing.
Something good came out of this forum, which is rare out in cyberspace.

Keep your eyes open for a future updates.

There is something very particular and special about Wranglers not found in any other American or foreign-made vehicles.

Again, thanks to you and the rest.

So long. Until the next chapter.

I leave you with a very cool fable I like:
--------
A farmer had only one horse. One day, his horse ran away.

All the neighbors came by saying, “I'm so sorry. This is such bad news. You must be so upset.” The man just said, “We'll see.”

A few days later, his horse came back with twenty wild horses. The man and his son corraled all 21 horses.

All the neighbors came by saying, “Congratulations! This is such good news. You must be so happy!” The man just said, “We'll see.”

One of the wild horses kicked the man's only son, breaking both his legs.

All the neighbors came by saying, “I'm so sorry. This is such bad news. You must be so upset.” The man just said, “We'll see.”

The country went to war, and every able-bodied young man was drafted to fight. The war was terrible and killed every young man, but the farmer's son was spared, since his broken legs prevented him from being drafted.

All the neighbors came by saying, “Congratulations! This is such good news. You must be so happy!” The man just said, “We'll see.”

Probably why the front tires look new, and the rear tires are shot. Put newer tires on the front to hide the problem, Fronts were probably really chewed up . Fellow seems to be looking for a reason to buy despite all the cautious comments

jokerchief462 Welcome to the forum!!! Find another Jeep there are many out there that don't look so sad.

Farnham21 Sounds like they don't know what their doing to begin with so I doubt they have any clue about that.

No worries, seller has not purchased the tires yet. I'll bring up the height thing before we do put any tires.

Thanks

jsmithtx Bought mine new and have already have lived through death wobble. I only have 36,000 miles on mine. That should be a big concern for you. My lift was about $1,000 installed. Your decision think about it carefully. Check front end very carefully. Have a mechanic check it too.

If the new tires will be 315/75/17 you will have clearance problems without a lift and wheel spacers. It doesn't look like this Jeep got any lift on it now. Just keep that in mind.

Farnham21 X2 that thing looks like a death trap waiting to happen.

jsmithtx Personally I would keep looking. Sorry just my opinion.

Jeepeze Thank you for your comments. I have an update and some facts I want to share.

The Jeep was obviously in an accident that yes, they did a cheap job and put that ugly Rubicon paint job on the hood.

I am getting a big discount because of all the things I found in it.
Wipers were old, back tires are really bad (I am getting brand new tires and rims - I think they are 315/75/17) - I'll confirm and share with you all and post pics too.

Before my post here, I asked him to "erase" that ugly Rubicon paint job, yes, it was painted, not a sticker. Unfortunately, if you get really close, you can still see that ugly font that was there before.

After I read your comments, I called the seller and told him I was not happy with the fenders and he is going to replace them by thinner ones (same style because the ones in the back are in perfect condition and we want them to match)

Other details:
1) About a week ago, I test-drove the Jeep at about 75 miles per hour in the highway and it felt ok.
2) I have the Carfax report and it says it is a 2008 Rubi (2008 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON)
3) Also, according to the web, vin numbers with "6" in the sixth digit indicates its a Rubi (but I believe Carfax it is already telling the truth)
4) Thanks for pointing the missing plastic- I'll see if I can get it from the seller too.

Anything tips/suggestions are welcome. This is going to be our first Jeep so we don't know much about them.
Regards,

jeepers29 As stated by others, the Rubi sticker is not original. It is either not a Rubi w/ a fake sticker or has been wrecked and doing a cheap fix, IMO. The only way I would by a used car or Jeep in this case, would be by private seller or from a true car dealer. I would never purchase a vehicle from one of these shade tree dealers. Way to many Jeeps out there to choose from, let this one sit and find one without a bunch of questions. Happy hunting and welcome to the forum.

ztman You say that he vin says it a rubi, but the sticker on the hood is not the oem rubi sticker. Why would someone take of the original sticker and put the goofy looking one on? Hood repainted? Why would someone put those huge fenders on? Wrecked and they were doing a budget fix and had these laying around? Hope you get a good warranty if you buy this poor thing

dabolt55 Welcome, good luck with your issue. Get some pics inside, and be sure and post back the outcome....

Farnham21 Or run away
04-27-2013 04:21 AM
Raiderfan001 Those fenders look stupid as f***. Didn't know they had a Droopy Dog edition. Depending on how much they are asking i'd get them to drop the price and replace them myself or have them replace them. If the price isn't right i'd walk away.
04-27-2013 04:11 AM
Farnham21 If you have the vin let me have it and ill autocheck it for you and see what this "thing" is
04-27-2013 03:37 AM
MrSig and enjoy the forum! Good Luck.
04-27-2013 01:17 AM
whiteyjfm Those fenders are the "bushwhacker pocket stile" fenders, and from the looks of it, it doesn't look like the right ones for that model year Wrangler.

Make them drop the price so you can get ones you like or make them put the stock fenders on. If it was me, I would have waled away from it. Does the "carfax" check out???
04-27-2013 01:14 AM
davison0976 Yeah, says Rubtoon on the hood. Is this a joke?
04-27-2013 12:56 AM
Jared66 10 bucks says that ain't no rubi lol
04-27-2013 12:53 AM
davison0976 Man, forgive me, but I couldn't stop laughing and feeling bad for the jeep at the same time. What a weird set of emotions these photos provoked in me. Sad puppy is all I could think of, even before reading the same line from your post, and the things hadn't improve much after they "fixed" it. Who would do such a horrible thing to a jeep... Unbelievable!!!

Don't get it, it looks neutered, no offense. That's not an image a Rubi should portray. Unless you can get a huge discount and fix the problem yourself, but I doubt it's going to be easy. The bottom line, - those fenders have got to be straight. Also, it's missing a plastic piece right under the bumper, in case you care about it.

I've got to show these pics to my wife.

What is wrong with this Rubicon?

Hello all,

I am looking into buying a Rubicon but I am not sure about some details - I already gave some money down and told them to repair some items for me before we close. The guy owns a used car dealer and has repair people there in his business.

Facts: according to the vin number and carfax, this is a 2008 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED RUBICON
Tires 255/75/17R

1) The Rubicon font looks different than the rest I've looked into online an in person

2) The fenders look too wide but more importantly, they don't look straight - it almost look like fallen puppy ears (see photos)
The guy selling it says he repaired it but still look a bit odd.
I know the "too wide look" will look better after putting wider tires... but still looks way too wide.
When I grab the fender and move it, it does not seem steady or tight like other fenders I tested in another car lot.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
PS: the last picture was taken after they repaired the fender for me.
