blackdayz I have the same problem. I'm looking into a turbo kit.

PiePuncher Tough one but re-gearing might b in your future. I run 31's and have no issues w speed in fifth gear unless driving up hill. Some of our highways here have speed limits of 75 mph, I don't usually drive the speed limit in those areas but can. If going to 33's, u will have to 're gear but I think u will lose some of your top speed.
Speed shouldn't b an issue where u live. Invest in a bad @$$ system, sit back relax and enjoy the ride. Plus, if u get sick of the humming or growl of the exhaust, u can crank up the volume and drown out the sounds.
How is your acceleration now? I wish I could drive another standard, factory 2.5 and compare. My acceleration off the line is excellent, especially for a moving block w a small motor

erickpl Go to 4.88 if you're running 33's. I have highway driving here to any of the offroad locations here and the hills, while not mountains, are certainly long enough and steep enough to require downshifting. I can usually hold 60+ on them though once in 4th.

I have a 2.5L, 4.88's, and 33x12'5 too.

And all that is with a 2-inch lift an 31's. I will be going to 33 12.50 R15 this summer

I live in West Virginia so alot of hills. Back roads are awesome. I have a 5-speed. My top speed is 120 on my odometer. Driving top speed varies on back roads. On interstate, flat land I can do a smooth 70 mph in 4th gear 3 grand. Down hill I can probably hit 85 - 90 mph 5th gear. Going uphill on interstate sometimes I even have to go 3rd gear 55 - 60 mph. I need both more acceleration and top speed...

PiePuncher If u goto 4.88, or 4.56, your top speed will go down but acceleration will go up. What is your top speed now? My setup is similar and my top speed is 95 or so.. faster than I want to go. I have done a motor rebuild but I see no reason to go that fast.

Waste of money. Also a cold air intake is a waste. Regear is the only option that works.

O_M_Jeep regearing is the only answer, I went to 4:88 and can hold speed fairly well, but wind and hills, well, it's still a 2.5L

rusty1 Re-gearing is about your only option. 4.56 if you have an auto trans, or 4.88 for the 5 speed

Having slow MPH on highway with a two-inch and 31's. Going up to 33's, I have 410 gears. What else can I do to be able to keep a decent speed on highway?
