By your question regarding up or down I'm thinking maybe you removed the tensioner pulley all the way and forgot how it was? Anyhow, here's the possible variations for the stock setups. As stated above as long as its routed correctly you will just keep cranking it until you get proper tension. I would only worry if you can't adjust it to tension, then something would clearly be wrong.

|UFOtestpilot||As long as you have it in right it shouldn't be that far from where it was before. Just tighten it up to tension. You have it routed the same yes?|

serpetine belt help!!!!
okay guys, i got a 97 tj 2.5L. bought a new belt and now i cant get my new one to tighten down...so help me guys!! is my adjustable pulley supposed to be pulled all the way up or down? do i just keep tightening the bolt behind the pulley till its tight? any advise would be appreciated!!!
