|Rolf||Just to add to what the others have said. If you maintain and PROPERLY adjust the rear brakes they work surprisingly well. In my experience they also last much longer.|

The only benefit you'd notice after converting from rear drums to disk would be ease of maintenance. You certainly won't notice any improvement in braking.
Not to mention that the rear drum brake performance has to be limited by the brake proportioning valve to prevent the rear brakes from locking up too easily. When you brake hard, the vehicle's weight is thrown onto the front brakes & off the rear brakes. So the rear brakes can lock up much more easily in that situation. If the rear brakes are allowed to brake too hard, they will lock up & cause a skid. So even the drum brake's full potential cannot be used when on the rear. Making the rear brakes more powerful will just encourage them to lock up & throw the Jeep into a skid... which is why the brake proportioning valve is there to reduce how much braking force the rear brakes can provide.

another thread going right now on the same subject...

i think disks are marginally better at providing better stopping. but compared to the large price for the conversion kits i would use my money else where.
heres a thread about disk breaks vs. drum breaks:

4 wheel disc
I want to put brake disks on the back of my 04 wrangler. Are there any interchangable parts off a grand cherokee or others that will work ?
I have priced the kits, they want a small fortune for them.
Any ideas --- Thanks
