swassy89 At this point I think I am ok with keeping the same size tires or going down to the 31's. I don't mind sitting in 3rd gear on the highway to maintain speed, but I assumed the RPM's I have to pull consistently to keep this up would wear on the engine/transmission? And assumed further that a gear ratio adjustment with 33" tires would be better all around, including off roading.

jgorm so use 3rd gear. I DD on 35s, its part of owning a jeep Drove it over 300 miles this weekend.

kshaws21 Would two inches make a real difference? Thats what they say anyway...

Well if you go back to stock size tires and dont remove the lift, it will look very odd. Regearing to 4.88 would be your best bet, but if your set on going to smaller tires, take the lift off while you're at it.

swassy89 I am obviously new to this, but is a 2 inch difference in tire going to make that big of a difference? What about general wear and tear on the vehicle? Would adjusting the gear ratio help extend the life of the transmission?

Thanks!

nelsonan1 Are you on stock gears? If so that's your biggest problem. Look into regearing to the proper ratio for that size of tires, or if you're dead set on downsizing tires just go to 31s. You'll have good power and it won't look funny with a 3 inch lift

Downgrade to Stock Tires/Wheels? (Daily Driver?)

I recently purchased my first Wrangler. It is a 1998 (TJ) stickshift 2.5L with 33" tires and a 3" lift. I plan to sell my other vehicle and make this my daily driver. I want to take it offroading occasionally, but not sure it is worth riding around with 33's on it all the time. I usually have a 10-15 min drive to work on mostly highway, but it is annoying to not be able to maintain speeds of 60+ mph in 4th gear on small inclines.

The tread life on the my current tires is getting pretty low and instead of replacing the tires I was thinking of getting new wheels and tires that matched the stock sizing for the vehicle.

Does this sound like a good idea?
Any advice/additional information appreciated!
Thanks!
