1) magnet as suggest above will work if placed in the right place, where something steel is not below it.
2) the actual bolt pattern and size is very different.
3) the vehicle it's under

Big Sarge From what I've been told the "a" on the dana44a stands for aluminum. Therefore I would make the assumption that you could put a magnet on the axle housing and see if it sticks or not as aluminum is not magnetic. Hope this helps.
