AlexS Alpine is my brand of choice for headunits and amps and subs. For speakers I prefer Infinity.

Huelsmma I picked up a brandnew $300 pioneer bluetooth audio, usb ports and all that jazz for only $150 on amazon. Car audio has a huge markup on things. Id go that route before a used radio for $75.

s14sh3r I have a stock unit in mine and the rear speakers crackle and make farting noises. I was hoping to get new speakers one of these days, but I worry the radio itself is causing it. I'm afraid to put anything other than a stocker in it because it's already had one good stereo stolen out of it.

I second a Kenwood. If I go aftermarket, I use Kenwood. You can get a good unit with iPod/Aux + Bluetooth for ~130. Got one in the Jeep and Saab along with Kenwood speakers in both, sounds great (well as good as a Jeep can sound!)

Plowboy1970 I put in a Sony. It is there HD unit with all the junk. Cost $175. Got the adapter to put it to the factory harness. There are cheaper units out there.

Will be up there soon as my Grandparents lived and are buried in Lily. Love it up there!!!

Waldo1 so any suggestions on replacement head units, nothing to fancy, but what would fit well and install easy.

Waldo1 oh yeah, I didn't notice your location, not to many of us up here. our youth trap shooting club was just down there this past weekend.

Plowboy1970 Pull radio and check connections in the back. But I have a feeling the radio guts are going. to a fellow Wisconsin driver.

Waldo1 I agree, jeep wasn't on the cutting edge of sound. (unless you count the wind) I just would be happy with the cracking gone.

Plowboy1970 The stereo is junk. Sorry. Time to buy a new head unit. I have a Sony in my 97 sport and just bought a 97 SE with a stock radio and it SUCKS.

speaker crackling

Ok I need help from the stereo guys, I just put in 2 new polk 651db speakers I had a crackling sound on one of the stock speakers, and now I have it on the new one, its not nearly as bad, but still disappointing. I soldered the old wires to the new speakers so I could use the factory plug. Could I have the polarity wrong, does it matter? I have a stock head unit and a 4 speaker system. Any ideas are appreciated.
