dooder If i were you ide call customer care or whatever they call it and open a case with jeep. Dealers are sometimes limited to what they can repair under warranty especially when its at the manufacturing level. express to them your displeasure of finding sections of unprotected panel under the hood. The dealer cannot simply authorize a paint repair and expect to get paid by the parent company. Im just saying the dealer will likely see you as a difficult customer because they will probably think its a nonconcern or worse they might just carelessly dab touchup and itll look like crap.

Do what you want, if you fourwheel once youll end up with scratches and dings that will make those two spots seem trifling.
dooder ... For the most part I agree with you. I'm one that will pick and choose when to pursue something and when to let it go. I've had the touchup paint out twice but each time something nags at me not to do it. (No my wife wasn't home either time )

So while I don't plan on making this into a big deal, I do want the dealer to do this as a documented warranty repair.

If I am not mistaken the top photo is of the driver side front of the hood correct!?
If so I believe if you have the factory alarm, this is the plunger switch located at the the drivers side front making that mark, the other spot I do not have a clue, sorry!

It is amazing Jeep would have a process that leaves two spots where the paint is rubbed away. I first thought it was a rub from something under the hood but when examining closer could tell it wasn't hitting anything. And since Badfish has them on his '08, it's nothing new.

I'll be making an appointment in the next couple weeks for a few minor warranty issues, so we'll see how it goes...

JayKay I have 'em too.
I thought it was from rubbing on underhood bumpers, but now I'll double check.
Luckily I bought mine after the salt season. It would be an easy touch up, but I agree on principle Jeep shoud fix it given the chunk of change Chrysler Financial is into me for.

Badfish yea same marks on my 08 x. it looks more like wear marks than being covered and painted over. i think its got to be wear marks from when they are installing the hoods at the factory. its for sure not rubbing on anything under the hood. it just looks like the marks are made from that. wierd

I agree. It's frustrating too, since here in the NE we get plenty of salt in the winter. So it's frustrating to have spots that don't have the factory finish. I am going to mention it and have them repair it. I'm sure they'll probably just want to touch it up like I could but I'm going to do my best to see it gets more attention then that.

jk'n That was my first thought. That would mean everybody's hood would have those same marks.

whiteyj It's probably something silly like those are the spots where the hoods are supported during the painting process at the factory.

Paint rubbed through under hood. Anyone else?

Does anyone else have this? There are two spots under the hood where it's down to bare metal. Small spots about a quarter inch round. Located about 6 inches from the front and side of the hood on both sides.

I went back to the dealer and checked three other JK's on the lot, and they all have the same bare spots. It's something that must have happened at the factory, because there is nothing under the hood that would hit right there.
