Dtwitch19 I have the same thing on my 04 Sahara. Where is Jerry? I'm curious as what these things are.

Jeffreybomb They're held in on the bottom with axel hat nuts, which is why I thought it would be a stock part. The mystery continues!

mikemounlio looks like a tie down point for a custom sun top.

Or they really wanted to hid the NOS button. DAMN CHEATERS

n00g7 Looks like it's in the hole you'll need to attach the door surrounds... If it doesn't keep your beer cold, toss it.

But I think the guy above is correct re your soft top.

Wordgie It adds significant gains in HP and MPG and renders your axles unbreakable under the weight of up to 54" tires. Not to mention chicks dig it.

Got a pic or name of the soft top?

I know some aftermarket tops have a different surround than the factory. If it has the flip top feature it could be the locking point for that.

?????? That piece would be inside the top (hard/soft) when it is on

Marcwakefield22 Take a hammer to it and see if it really does deploy the air bag

HAH! Like those would exist on a TJ.

Hardermods It USED to be a kickstand, but yours is broken!

Or

I have no clue.
05-01-2013 02:49 PM
TJDave Maybe it's a pivot point for some kind of flip back top??

I've never seen one so I really have no clue.

I like the hat rack idea though.

thats awesome. I like that idea.

SecretAgentMan Rotate it 90 degrees if you want to flip someone off . . .

2 - Its a hat rack. I looked 3 solid times, no doubt in my mind that its for holding your hat. Or in an EMERGENCY situation, should no one be around to help, it could be a stand in for the "Hold my beer and watch this"

Madden Could be for a bikini top or something similar
05-01-2013 12:12 PM
Jeffreybomb Took a closer look: these things don't touch the full doors when they're closed. I seriously have no idea what these things could be.
04-29-2013 05:24 PM
Jeffreybomb I've got full doors. It was really nice out today, so I took advantage of it and swapped out the hard top for the soft top. I also popped the doors off and went for a drive, so I'll take a look and see if it does anything for the doors that I'm not noticing. I don't think it does.

As far as I could tell, everything on the Jeep was stock when I bought it. I'm kind of surprised it's stumped everyone; the way it's bolted in makes it look like it's actually part of the stock bars.
04-29-2013 04:34 PM
ChaddG Do you have half doors or full doors? I have never seen one of those, my guess is it helps support the soft top as well. I have full doors and door surrounds. < peices that go around the top of the door and the back side of them> for those who don't know, it gives the door something to close against also gives the side windows somewhere to clip into. I have full doors and the surrounds have 2 screws on each side, with a large circle handle on them.
04-29-2013 04:33 PM
Rayko Some kind of homemade mirror relocation bracket? Is there one on the passenger side too?
04-29-2013 04:20 PM
Kota7x It looks like part of an aftermarket door surround to me.
04-29-2013 03:15 PM
Jeffreybomb It's towards the front of the roll bars, closest to the windshield. Here's a couple further shots:

(Pardon the pale hand. Not enough sun yet here in Chicago.)

Neil F. That did not come from the factory.
04-29-2013 02:19 PM
Diverdown87 Never seen anything like it on my 98 and I have owned it since brand new. How about a better picture from more of a distance.

What is this?

I'm assuming it's for a factory soft top, but I'm not entirely sure. I've got a Bestop soft top and a factory hard top. As far as I can tell, these aren't really serving a purpose?
