1jeeplvr I wonder if a TJ having a frame & a XJ being unibody has anything to do with the XJ not being as desireable?

nomrlz this is why it took me over 20yrs to buy a jeep. just never could bring myself to paying the crazy prices for rust bucket, tin can, non equipped, uncomfortable, non mileage, lack of speed, money pits. then finally broke down and bought one after realizing they were never coming down in price either used or new

I don't think there has been a vehicle ever made that holds it's value as well

groovebus People don't usually get rid of their Wranglers. So, in a way they are rare because there aren't many in the resale market compared to other 4x4's, which increases it's value. I've seen them dead and rusted sitting in a drive way and people wouldn't even take cash for it. It's always a project.

SuicideSaints Like others said.... Supply and demand, that is what drives market prices. If the demand is high a product costs more, if the demand is low you cant give it away. They sell them for such a high price because people want them and are willing to pay the asking prices.

O_M_Jeep For what it's worth, 2 years ago an XJ took first in the stock class at an offroad competition up here, I was still on 31"s and my 3.25" lift and I took 2nd. When it comes to hill climbing the longer wheelbase will beat you almost everytime, I hung him up on break-over, but he took first and I second in the end, XJ's are extremely capable, just watch any of the BleepinJeep videos.

In my opinion Cherokees are a step down from a wrangler, however the wheelbase does not give them equality on the trails. You can modify a Cherokee enough to compete with something like a JKU but it will never be a wrangler. Plus once you roll them or smash em that's it. Everything you destroy can be replaced on a wrangler.

I love my Cherokee and have been all over the eastern US with it, without a single problem. But 1. It's not a convertible 2. If you drive one you can't pull the "I don't have a back seat" excuse when your friends want you to haul them somewhere and 3. Nobody waves to a Cherokee........

dukedallas I sold my YJ 10 years ago for $4,000 it was showroom quality, I still see YJ's going for more than that and they look like rusty dump trucks. It was my first Jeep I didnt realize how well they hold their value back then.

JimsJeep Supply and demand is a factor, the supply of older Jeeps is diminishing but the demand is not.

Teague242 Because they are the one vehicle that can be totally customized, that's reliable enough to be driven daily, and both 16 year old girls and 60 year old men feel cool driving it. It'll go good in the winter and is fun as heck in the summer.

They are simple to work on and have engines that are more reliable than anything made since the 300CID.

I can go on forever.....

O_M_Jeep That's the Jeep thing you heard about, now you understand.

CarolinaBound If you're lookin for a cheap 4x4, hard to beat an XJ, kick ass budget brawler. If ya have a bit more cash then go for a YJ.

They're expensive because it's the best winter vehicle that's a convertible and can provide a more open air feel than anything else on 4 wheels and is extremely modifiable and has an awesome community and can drive as long as you maintain it. Think that covers it...

4wheelcowboy 3 years ago i paid 13k for my 06 wrangler x it had 30k miles now i see 99s around the same price with more miles i think its the new jeeps bring up the price of the old ones becuase tjs and yjs look nicer and aint so fancy..

Wester101 For the reason you want one. They rule so they hold value.

Why are used wrangler most expensive?

Still on my way finding the right deal. But among all those ads on craigslist, I found that with similar year, milage, engine type, Wrangler is aleays more expensive compared to other 4x4s, even other Jeeps.

Cherokee, Ram, Chevy trucks all seems to be with a lower price tag on the market. Of course, it's not always true..

But is my speculation right? and why is this then?
