They are rough instructions meaning that they give you the basics of what to take off and where to relocate parts. They give you the standard measurements but it is meant to be a builder kit so that you can do what ever you want with it. If you follow the measurement to the t then you may end up with a decent setup but not what the kit was intended to be like.

For the parts to complete the suspension would be what you have stated with the coils, shocks, and brake lines, and you will need to buy a rear axle truss for the 4 link and new bumpstops. You also may want to look into getting new lower shock mounts. Then you get into other parts like steering, skid plates, etc to complete your jeep to go with the suspension.

Make sure you read up on it before you even attempt to do it. Yeah kits say that it just needs to be welded up and you're good to go but then you get the bad geometry and end up with money wasted and a piece of junk suspension that you will have to do all over again. It may take a while to read up on it but it will be worth it and you will have an awesome setup that you made and does what you want it to do.

geiman Before you go delving into that kind of suspension job and start hacking off brackets, I'd spend at least a month or so learning. Start with threads like this:

Suspension Geometry - JeepForum.com

Read through it and all of the links in there people have provided. After doing that, you should have a very good idea of how you want to setup your suspension. It's not hard to figure out, it just takes some time to learn. If you take the time to do so, you will end up with a suspension that will be much nicer than anything you buy pre-packaged.

EMTJEEP I would say go with GenRight kit, like unlimited stated. I run their 3/4 link system and I love it. It was an easy install even with the rough instructions they give you. Also it's just about the same price form poly if you add the tubing and truss to their kit.

there are indeed builder kits that offer a good start.

1. Thats what ive been told and that is how much lift i would like to have.

3. I am fine installing a custom KIT. I said that. but it needs to be a KIT not a whole shop customized suspension system that a shop needs to install.

Any ideas on a customer kit?

It's about the geometry. tall lifts with SA's suck because the geometry sucks. if you're going to lengthen the arms, the fix the geometry issues while you're doing that. Any bolt-up LA kit won't have good geometry...simple as that. Clayton comes as close as you can for an off-the-shelf semi-bolt up kit.

But if you actually want to fix the geometry and drastically improve characteristics, you gotta start cutting & welding and forget about arm length. Let the mounting points dictate arm length.
I already have 33's on 3in lift. I want more lift and 35's. Also i would like to do the hardest trail my TJ will let me do. Also we have more mud holes here than rocks. So bigger tires = more clearance for the diffs. I agree with you 100% that it is not about the arm legnth. I know and understand that and yes you are right that arm mounting points are more important than the actual arm legnth. But are there any KITS out there with components needed for a custom suspension? That is my question. I have plenty of people who can help me and a buddy who was a welder for a living. I'm just looking for a kit. I was mainly leaning towards the Clayton but yes i am not a fan of the lower arm mounting points. so is there a customer kit with mid legnth arms/kits where you can place the mounts somewhere between LA and SA mounting points?

3. What is your aversion to a body lift?
2. What makes you think a "custom kit" needs to be installed by a shop? What makes it any different than other kits you buy?

Well for starters im not really sure about the RE 5.5 cause people say it is more like 6.5in of list. I really want about 5in or lift to run. Would probably go with the RE 4.5in LA. Im looking to run 35's and i know, I thought about all the other things and already planned for them. Im not looking to do any stretch kits or BL. I would like to run some moderate trails but nothing too extreme. I know going back and forth between SA or LA some people say LA others say SA. Havent found a respectable company making a 5in SA lift. Besides that would be getting pretty steep angles on the control arms. Custom kit would be great but again would rather be a kit so i could install it myself with some buddies help and not have to have a shop install. Any ideas on that?

homebrwd Just wondering, is there a reason you are looking for so much lift?

I have heard mixed reviews on most out of the box tri link kits, generally they aren't good and you are better off doing a custom setup.

Clayton Offroad vs. Rubicon Express (LA Lifts)

I've been looking at these 2 lift kits and I'm looking for some insight.

Clayton Offroad 5.5" Long Arm Lift Kit
vs.
Rubicon Express 5.5" Extreme Duty Long Arm Lift w/ Rear Tri Link

Anyone with personal experiences running these lifts or personal knowledge of these 2 lifts. Please give me some pro and cons of both lifts. They are both similar in price, both look very dependable and both have great names in the Offroad World. Just want to see or hear any headaches or pluses to each lift.
