|Billmummey||I didn't know that until I bought my first winch from them, they guy at the store told me as long as I bought the warranty to make sure I brought it back and exchanged it for a new one before the 2 yrs were up and when I got my new winch buy another warranty and do it again.... Pretty cool and that's why I continue to use harbor frieght|

|jeremyx28||I added a 1 year warranty on mine for $30. They told me I can come up anytime and extend it again. Its pretty cool that you can keep extending the warranty. I would have gone 2 years but didn't have any more money lol|

|Billmummey||Not to mention if you buy the 80$ extended 2 yr warranty they will replace in every 2 years as long as you buy another warranty with the new replacement... I had the old model they use to carry it was a 10,000lb and got a full refund 2 years after I bought it when I sold my Toyota... I just picked up the badlands 12,000 last weekend and another warranty|

|jeremyx28||A lot of people buy the 12000 pound winch from harbour freight because you can get it for $299.99 with a coupon. The coupons are all over the net and I get them sent to my house every other day.|

|AllMudd||Your right why overkill? I like to be rest assured that whenever I need my 9,000lb WARN winch I want it to be there!!!!!! Plus the GVW might be <3500 lbs but when you add mud, slope and the rut your stuck in your not pulling just the GVW. And just another note a 9,000lb winch can actually pull double that (about 18,000lbs) with a 2 to 1 setup with a snatch block. So with most winches you have plenty of pulling capacity for whatever you need. And what's another 1,000lbs for a little more $$$ gonna hurt?|

|jeremyx28||I'm gonna pick the wireless remote up, thanks for the tips on the winch. I was gonna rip the box apart and get some silicone in there to help water proof it at some point this weekend. So much to do lol.....chipping away at it|

Thats a great looking front bumper. And as far as a badlands winch, I have the 12,000 on the front of my YJ and I love it. Although it is slower, You will see when winching with any kind of a hard pull, than most of the "premium winches". But what the general public doesnt know is, the company that makes the electrical motor for a badlands winch, is the same company that makes the motor for a warn, and a ramsey, and a smittybilt, Its the exact same motor, with the same part number on it. The gearing is the only difference in what weight the winch is rated for. You have a good winch, I would put mine up against any Warn or other "high dollar" winch out there.
Even the test that was done in 4 wheeler magazine rated it 2nd, out of all the winches that they tested. Just make sure its well water-proofed. And get a cover for it. Another thing you will want to do with it, is to take that plastic control box off the top of it and mount it in under the hood somewhere. It isnt very well water-proofed at all. Plus, if you get a loop in the cable while winching, caued by getting sudden slack in the cable while winching in, it will rip that plastic box right off those cheap clamps that hold it to the cross bars. Happened to me. I got the Harbor freight wireless remote for mine now....its only 30 bucks.

Thanks all, just got a hi lift today and working on my mount for it. Using exhaust clamps as my base and building off it. I need a few washers and a little dremmel work and I'm done. Gonna build a trunk lid this weekend so I can keep my tools and tow gear secure behind the seat. Gonna build it out of 3/4" plywood and carpet it. Then I'm gonna lock it down with hinges and a padlock so I can remove it if I need. I'll update pics when I get the trunk lid done.

my new bumper and winch
So after a long two days I finally finished my project. Installed my new bumper and winch. I bought the bumper from eautogrilles on eBay and the winch is a badlands from harbour freight. I know people like to rag on these winches, but for my purposes and budget its perfect. Also, IMO its better to have any winch then none at all. The winch is a lot faster then I thought it was going to be, after reading reviews of people saying how slow it is....anyway, this is my first jeep and my first time taking on a job like this, I'm proud of myself let me know what you think, this jeep has come a long way in the few weeks I've owned it.
