Your best bet for selecting the right rifle would be to go to a real sporting goods store (not Dick's, Sports Authority, Academy), get a feel for who in the firearm section is a hunter, and pick their brain about what works in your area. Just remember that some gun counter guys tell questionable stories, like how they took an Moose with a .22 LR.

The most popular calibers for deer hunting are .308 .270 (which is basically a necked down 30-06) and 30-06. The .260 rem is used a lot for smaller deer like white tail and mule deer, some consider it a little under powered for larger species like elk.

^If you havent shot the LC9 yet....get ready
Its definitely a fun little pistol, pretty damn accurate, and a very nice CCW, but it is SNAPPY.
I bought it for my fiance and lets just say I dont mind not shooting it very much lol.
I just took apart one of my AR uppers last night and I'll be changing it up quite a bit. Here is a before picture and when I get the rest of the parts I'll have an after pic
Also, my nightstand and carry pistols.

|danieldlg_13||Just picked up small handgun yesterday and will say I am pretty impressed. Initially I was going to purchase the Beretta M9A1 military spec or 92A1 civilian spec, but I plan on carrying this handgun concealed so the smaller the better. I had shot the Ruger LC380 before and decided on this LC9 with the laser attachment. Hitting the range this weekend!!!|

Got more guns than i know what to do with but my absolute favorite is my ruger 10/22 i custom built myself. Has a factory ruger receiver. Kidd cocking assembly. Volquartsen extractor. Kidd bolt buffer. Kidd adjustable trigger in factory polymer housing. Green mountain 20" .920 diameter bull barrel in blue. Raptor laminated stock. Bushnell 4-12 x 40 scope. Plan on adding a complete kidd bolt assembly and ill be done. And maybe some new glass. But here it is!
Forgot to mention a tactical solutions v block!

Picked this one up this evening. Best part, my favorite Fun Shop was offering 12 months interest free financing. So I have a year to pay it off with no interest. Louisiana is great.

Agreed on the 1911 as well. While Colt, Springfield, and Kimber are OK, consider a Wilson Combat full sized CQB. It is really, really nice. Very well made, very accurate, reliable, and a great carry weapon. Just a little bit on the pricey side, but you will never regret buying it.
