|phnguyen7||fuel filter was changed out less than 3k miles ago. would it be able to get dirty that quick? sounds like it can be the problem though|

|Squirrel 442||Check the fuel filter too. If it is clogged it could have similar symptoms. You barely need ant fuel to idle. Easy check before pulling the torque converter.|

|phnguyen7||hmm forgot to mention the jeep has a howell tbi. The idle is around 700 in park and neutral. Sounds like it might be the torque converter. Would a vacuum leak make the engine shut off in drive or reverse?|

|AllMudd||Not to sure either but I've heard that this will happen with a bad Xsmn or torque converter being locked up constantly when it shouldn't be until you get on if. Just my .02$|

possible water splashing around in the float bowl of the carb. I used to do small engine repair, its a different animal for sure but the comon factor is that a mower will sit and run all day with water in the gas. The second it sloshes by movement the water droplets get sucked in and it dies.
Water will puddle to the bottom of gas like clear marbles in a the bottom of a glass jar. Sitting still, your fine. Move and your stalling w/wet spark plugs.

89 YJ turns off in gear. Help Needed.
I have an 89 YJ 4.2 Auto. It idles fine in park and neutral but when I put it in reverse or drive it will die out. Any ideas? Some times in park or neutral it would die out too but the engine idles for awhile before it dies. When in gear it will die right away. Thanks in advance.
