|Jerry Bransford||All of the above is why I hate metric size tires, I can never figure out what their sizes are in inches without a frigging calculator & I can't think in millimeters. Metric tire sizes are just too complex for my old brain any more.|

|Water Dog||You are going to find a lot less selection in tires and higher prices if you go to 16 or 17" rims. I went to 16's and wish I hadn't.|
|05-04-2013 05:34 PM|
|khall7||I'm currently running 15" but the tire I want doesn't come in that size so I'm changing rims too|

I did and they do have a 305 70 16 there, so would that tire be 33.81" tall?
|05-03-2013 07:20 PM|
"would anyone mind pulling up the sears website real quick and seeing what different sizes there are for fierce attitudes in the 33" range? It would be greatly appreciated"
I didn't see any 305's listed there. Can't you go to the Sears site yourself?
|05-03-2013 06:53 PM|
|khall7||by my calculations the 305 70 16 would be 33.81" tall and a little bit wider is that correct?|
|05-03-2013 06:44 PM|
are those not considered 32's then?
|05-03-2013 06:39 PM|
|khall7||so how big would 305 70 16 be?|

|khall7||would anyone mind pulling up the sears website real quick and seeing what different sizes there are for fierce attitudes in the 33" range? It would be greatly appreciated|

|dredg009||Possibly had a different load rate and the same air pressure didn't inflate them the same but who cares I'm on to bigger and better things.|
|05-03-2013 04:30 PM|
|dredg009||Before going 31/10.5/15. I had a set of Goodyear Sr or something they were 235/75/15 they were almost 3/4" taller than my Dayton timberline at that had the same tread depth but were dryrotted.|
|05-03-2013 04:27 PM|
|dredg009||Also every tire is different in measurement. Two tire with the same size can very about a 1/2"or more.|
|05-03-2013 04:25 PM|
And not as wide as your typical 33"x12.5".
|05-03-2013 04:25 PM|
|dredg009||A little narrower but yes|
|05-03-2013 04:23 PM|
|khall7||so the 285/70r/17d fierce attitudes are the equivalent of 33's correct?|

I didn't write this. Any change in any of the three numbers changes the tire diameter/height.
A- This is the width of the tire in millimeters. The conversion is 1"= 25.4mm so for our example: 285/25.4= 11.22" width.
B- This part is the "aspect ratio" of the tire and is a relation of the tire's width to the sidewall height of the tire. In our example it's '70'. This means the sidewall height is 70% (.70 in calculation) of the width of the tire. That means the sidewall height is:
11.22 x .70= 7.85"
BUT there is a 'sidewall' both above and below your wheel when measuring height, so you must multiply this by 2 when calculating the tire's overall height.
C- This third piece is simply your rim size. So, for a final calculation of a tire's size, you add this to the total from part B.
In conclusion, a 285/70/R17 equates to 11.22" wide and is (7.85x2)+17"= 32.71" tall, or basically equivalent to a 33x11.50R17 if we called it a standard size.

|dredg009||285/70/17. 285 is width 70 is the %of the width the side wall is and 17 is obviously the rim diameter. The higher the number in the 70 Position the taller the side wall.|
|05-03-2013 04:12 PM|
|khall7||or is that for 16" rims and 285 is for 17's? The tires I would really like are fierce attitudes from sears|
|05-03-2013 04:11 PM|
|Michigunman||305 (285) is the width not the height.|
|05-03-2013 04:07 PM|
|khall7||I thought 305 was the metric equivalent of 33's....|
|05-03-2013 03:43 PM|
Yeah, they are just going to be in metric equivalent sizes. Mine are 285/70/17 BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2s ( basically 33 x 11.5 wide).
