98 Auto Trans Leak Question

Hello,

I had knee surgery this past winter and my Jeep sat for a few months while I was in a cast. When I started it for the first time around late February it puked out about a half quart while it was warming up. It appeared to be the pan gasket and I tightened the bolts a bit and it seemed to go away for a bit but lately it seems to leave a nice spot where ever I park. I crawled under it today and cleaned and watched and I get a drip from the area between the trans and transfer. A few questions:

1.) Can I drop the skid plate? It seems to support the trans/transfer
2.) Any idea why it is leaking where the 2 mate?
3.) Also seems wet on the driver side of the trans around a electrical plug...but not a drip. What is that plug?

I am sure I will have more questions so thanks in advance for your help.
