I put in 3 qts of atf+4 & 2 bottles of lucas trans fix.
Seems to shift ok.
Fluid is not showing on dip stick but the lucas bottles are not full qts.
Probably put more tranny fluid in but don't want to put in too much.
Also got to figure out how to correcty install & adjust the tv rod.

|goatman||It likely wasn't broken if you didn't drive it. I have adjusted bands on our Durango by hand. Guessing 6ftlbs with a 1/4 inch ratchet isn't too hard. Just readjust it and see what happens.|

Looks like I'm just going to go with the fluid, filter change w/ a couple bottles of lucas trans fix & pray.
Also noticed po did not hook up tv rod.

The adjustment setting stated in the book are for new or rebuilt Trans, but some shops do readjust the bands.
My Trans guy told me if the bands really need to be re-adjusted then the trans is SHOT!
All the band does is stop that clutch drum when changing gears, if they are worn out the o-rings in the ser-voes are hard and leaking by, time for a Master Rebuild Kit.

Also, not sure if 72 in. lbs. Is just for factory setting or what. If the bands can be adjusted.
Just want to try & do all I can to salvage the tranny.

|YJ fanatic||I don't know if it messed it up, since I'm also not a tranny guy. But all you need to do to convert to inch pounds is divide 72 by 12. So it'd be 6 foot pounds.|

Did tightening the screw as much as I did mess up the band?
I don't have a torque wrench for in. lbs.

|Tattoo Tony||I would readjust it. I know it sucks to drop the pan again but I would do it anyway. Save the fluid and reuse it if you can.|

Tranny screw up of the year
Before the comments yes I must be an ass clown.
What happend was I was trying to adjust the rear band on my tranny & I read the instructions wrong.
It said tighten to 72 in. lbs. & I tightened to almost 72 ft. lbs.
The pan is back on the tranny. Should I see what happens & give it a go or pull the pan & try to readjust it?
I don't know if it is already toast.
As you can tell tranny work is not my thing.
I am ready to just get another used tranny but funds are low as I am really frustrated.
I was adjusting the bands, tv cable, new fluid & filter, to try & salvage the tranny on my off road only YJ.
87 yj 4.2 engine auto tranny.
Tranny column lever will go through all the gears but nothing happens.
Just acts like it's in neutral.
Checked linkage & it's fine.
Had a similar problem with it a while back & changed the filter & added lucas tranny repair.
Seemed to temporarily fix it but now I'm back to tranny not shifting.
Any help is appreciated.
