You're talking about the trails back behind the trees off to the left of Oceana Blvd. if you're heading toward Tomcat and the main gate right? I went back there a few years ago and did some fishing and the trails were open then. Had to drag a couple guys out.

wolfen so are those the trails pepperbrooks23 is talking about?
I got stationed here in 1980 and back then NAS Oceana had 4wd trucks that patrolled those trails all the time, I got stationed at NAS Norfolk and I was told there were no legal off roading areas in Va beach or Norfolk
02-03-2014 09:57 PM
tylerrelyt101 The base police don't drive anything that can get back in those trails.
02-03-2014 03:30 PM
wolfen if your talking about teh ones on Oceana Blvd up at the end where it slows to 45 mph, those are not trails, those are security trails for NAS oceana police, at least they weer back in 93 when I almost got a ticket for tresspassing

pepperbrooks23 For clarification because I didn't mention in the last post, what is so shitty and has got some guys pissed off is that after looking around its very apparent that the trees were cut just to keep us jeepers out. The trails that only quads and dirt bikes can fit through are NOT blocked off.

pepperbrooks23 Hi all, I'm new to the forum but have a bit of time in the area. I just thought anyone might want to know about the trails over by Oceana. Since I've been wheeling out here they have been open and never had any issues wheeling there. Most folks don't tear it up, and it stays clean. I went there today just to do a drive through and see how it was after the snow and found some one has gone in and cut down multiple trees on the entrances to the hilly part. At first I thought it may have been the city closing it off, but there are still no signs posted to stay out, AND the only trails that had trees dropped across them are ones wide enough to allow vehicles through. So after checking the whole area out it looks like someone has gone in and cut down 10 trees or so and blocked off ALL of the access points into the back area where vehicles could go. If you know the area you should go check it out! A real prick move by some selfish fucks. I've already spoke to a couple folks that want to go drop some more trees on the MAIN access points so that the turds that closed it off for us get the same treatment... If you don't know where it is PM me and I'll give you directions...

wolfen I would but I work for the city of VB now that I'm out of the Navy and I used to think the Navy was screwed up till I went to work for these idiots, I guess 20 years can;t be undone by a bunch of brainless morons LOL
01-27-2014 03:10 AM
Maddogsnavy25 I tried that one by the power lines, high centered on some poles covered by brush -_-, was funny as hell though and no damage done, shoot me a message if you ever want to wheel, off the next 3 days on leave

wolfen LOL I feel ya, remember the Noreaster a bout 5 years ago?
My wife was driving my Jeep at the time cause I had just got it fro her to replace a pos car that was no better than rolling scrap metal, I was driveing a 89 S10 Blaze with a sticker that said US Govt in teh door, so I know it was a 350 4 speed powered little monster, during the Noreaster our power went out, so I hop in the Jeep and go on the city right of way behind my house to see what tree fell on the wires this time, once I got all the way to the end I tried to drive around a pole and discovered a few things (1) the 4 banger Jeep had open diffs (2) I had NOT let ANY air out of the tires, (3) I had driven right into what turns into quicksand every time it rains (4) I sand so deep that it wouldn't have mattered if I had Ox Lockers and 33's I wasn't going anywhere except down and finally (5) the doors don't open when the mud is half way up them
Took me 12 hours so shoveling and my blazer with 150 foot of 20,000 lb log chain to pull the jeep out, and I almost got the blazer stuck on dry pavement I spun tires so bad.
I kinda avoid mud deeper than 6 inches since then

capncraigagain I hear ya, wolfed. I'm not going out there, or any other place I'm unfamiliar with alone again. At least until I put a good recovery winch on.

36.72836,-76.214594 is another little spot to test out your suspension and have a little fun. Beware the new FEMA facility to the West north West of it. They may get a little nervous if you wander to close to the fence line. Otherwise, it can be a decent little place.
01-01-2014 11:39 AM
wolfen looked that up, looks like a place I'd like to go when it dries out
I say when it dries out because I only have 235's and no winch, just a farm jack and a 20 foot recovery strap and I don't feel like jacking a long way today LOL
01-01-2014 10:40 AM
capncraigagain I search Google maps for prospective local rides. Yesterday, I went out exploring at position 36.778807,-76.254486 Got stuck for about an hour after I drove into a water filled mud rut and bottomed out the front and rear axles. Fortunately, I had an Extreme Jack with me and found a couple piles of used bricks nearby to put under the rear tires and behind the jeep to drive out.

Lessen learned: don't go blindly where rational people would hesitate.

misfit1981 Just moved back to Virginia Beach this time around we have a Jeep. I'm interested in beginner/intermediate trails which are within a few hours from here.

'12 JK Rubicon, 2" Spring lift, bumpers with D rings, and a winch. Stock rims and BFG muds.

I'd be happy to pay to join a club who is interested in preserving the land/trails. I am NOT interested in wheeling in any illegal areas...

wolfen You mean the ones up by tarmac? I thought that was govt property? if It is I can't go on them simply because of how they were putting people out in 99 for medical reason

JeeperYJ Just a thought....why don't all of u from across the bay come to OC week (OCWJ) in August at Ocean City MD

wolfen I don't think they need tolls, I work for the city of Virginia Beach and if the other city's and the Sate of Virginia are anything like the city I work in all they need to do is stop wasting money
Example in the city we have walkways that go nowhere around a lake that nobody visits, in et schools we have these boards where the old chalk boards used to be, only 8k each, one in every single class room wanna know how many schools we have? I know that answer I fix stuff at them with no money.

X2 I diffently remember all the tolls also... Well the only good thing was they were a lot cheaper then from what they will want now.
