daddyjeep Most guys that do the 5.2 swap use stock drive shafts. I suppose that can be done with most swaps with proper placement of the motor.

creelclmsn Bringing another one back from the dead here, I am starting to shop around for my V8 swap that I will start next winter. My questions are this:

1. Should I do the 5.2L out of the Grand Cherokee or a Chevy 350?
2. If I do the GC motor what transmission do I use to keep my manual gearbox? (ax-15?)
3. What transfer case should I use on the GC? (TJ?)
4. If I go with a GM motor what vehicles should I look to pull from?
5. What transmission would I use for a GM motor to keep the manual gear box?
6. What GM transfer case should I use?
Finally, Will I need new driveshafts if I do the 5.2L GC motor?

I did the 5.3 I think it's the best bang for buck...300+hp cheap parts everywhere & 1500 any junk yard with trans & all wiring...ect...I bought the Novak mounts & headers...she runs great...but I'm sure no matter what you chose you'll be glad you did a v8

daddyjeep In the middle of a 5.2 swap out of a Grand Cherokee myself. If it were done I could offer more information. Something else to consider.

Chevy swaps are probably the most common. There are quite a few threads in the forum about them.

CPT.Morgan16 I am doing a 283ci sbc that I bored .060 over with pistons and heads, I am also looking for what transfer case I can use with the 700r4 tranny, and still bolt up the the front end any suggestions? I know I can get the adapter kit but that is a lot of cash that if I don't have to spend I don't want to. As I am still in high school and don't have a lot of cash. any help would be great.

Speedy4x4 And with dodge your limited on transmission choices if you want to keep high pinion front axle.

Novak has a NP435 adapter to fit it to the NP231 T-case. Ford on the other hand has plenty of options.
Personally I would go with dodge but I'm a mopar guy and it has nothing to do with which one swaps in better

wrangleryj90 I have a ford 302 in my cj7 and I love it but it's got upgraded cam and junk I had fun with it

overthehillsahara Go with the MORE motor mounts but shop around, you can get them from vendors other them MORE for the same price and get free shipping. Make sure to mock the engine in using c-clamps to hold before you weld them. I using the MORE mounts on a 1990 5.7 TBI and ran into clearance issues with the bellhousing. I was able to remove the alignment pin an move them forward. It was pushing everything back to far causing the driveshaft to be even shorter. And now I wont have to pull the motor to change the clutch.

indirocz28 Then go the route I did, and use a GM TBI engine. Got it with harness and computer for $400

AZ WRANGLER I just did a 5.3L swap last year. LOVE IT!!! Worth every penny! Go to a junk yard and buy the complete motor, trams, and ECU out of wrecked truck. I spent $1500 and got everything, including the gas pedal and control box (drive by wire)

I used Novaks motor mounts. They tell you exactly where to weld them. Plus they are adjustable. I was able to reuse my stock drive shafts. I also used their adapter to convert my NP231 to the chevy transmission. They also reprogrammed my ECU

indirocz28 Yes, the GM LSx 5.3L is a great swap. Actually my buddies shop is doing one right now into a TJ.

It all depends on your budget. but no matter what, don't skimp on taking your time to measure things up, and on those motor mounts. The person who originally put a GM SBC v8 into my YJ really did a horrible job. In fact it is now better for me to leave the motor mount perches he put in than to cut out the frame and replace a section then add in the MORE mounts.

What does your budget look like? 5.3L LM7 Iron block is a great swap. If you are looking for something Aluminum block they make the same engine but its the L33. It is pretty much an LS1 minus the extra displacement

Hey everyone, I have a 1988 YJ with a straight 4. Im looking into swapping it out for a V8. Any suggestions for what engine i should go for? And how i should go about doing the swap? Thanks!
