2x on "it is pretty common". I see it on a lot of the darker and the more translucent colors.

Chrysler had an issue on a non-UV stable primer across most of their car lines. Sun exposure just caused it to fail. I had a 99 Dodge Dakota that the whole paint film on the top surfaces let go after about 5-6 years. Required a full sand to bare metal and repaint. That might be the cause, either way, most folks seem to just live with it....

4cylToy Like is stated, I bought it roughly 7 months ago and no sign of repainting. Previous owner never mentioned it, and I dont see any signs of over spray. Im 90% positive its factory paint on all the vehicle. Its never been in an accident that was reported.

Duckmasterlack I have a black 99 TJ and have the same problem. I did a little research and it seems that is a common problem with paint jobs on Wranglers and Cherokees. I would like to know if anyone has a definitive answer on the cause. From what I have seen the only fix is to sand down to bear metal and go from there.

Paint cracks?

I bought it used last Oct. so any paint jobs I'm unaware of. Just noticed these on Sunday and never before that. I clean it at least 3-4 times a month. Its under the clear coat, like the actual paint coat I guess. My only guess is that the hood was hot, and water got splashed from underneath and the hot/cold mix cracked the paint under the clear coat. That's the only thing I can think of. Only fix is a new paint job? Anyone ever seen this before? Their over the entire hood and hood only.
