Horn5413 Yea. It's a pain. Got mine out. And went to the bar pin deal. No need to ever remove those bolts again. Besides its impossible to get the shock boots over the bar pins.

justin-branam Hahaha, I guess I went the redneck way. When mine broke off, I just left it there, drilled a new hole right next to it, and was able to put a new nut and lock washer on the backside. With the existing nut and the new nut right up next to each other, this prevented the new "loose" nit from spinning when I wrenched down on the new bolt. Was much quicker than cutting, torching, welding, etc., and has been running strong.... for now at least.

ChaddG I was going to suggest putting two nuts together on the bolt shaft and turning them tight to produce a stopnut scenario, then backing the lower one off.
or getting an easy out socket and some penetrating oil, or torch a little bit around it, tap it with a hammer and take it out nice n easy

h2ogun Happened to me yesterday. Only one bolt broke. After trying to drill out the bolt (which seems to be very very hard), I ended up cutting a hole in the floor of the jeep and used a dremmel tool to cut off the welded nut.


Today I will patch the hole, oddly it's not seeming too evasive. Next time I remove the shock and that bolt (nut) I will have access.


Dont know if it make much difference but I re-assembled with plated bolts and grade 10.9. (8mm x 1.25pitch) Also use great amounts of anti seize (koper koat my favorite)

Tjrubicon17 Yep. Might have to cut out a little more metal in the front of the shock. But it worked for me. Not saying it's "the best" fix but it's what worked for me with what I had to work with.

I am in this same dilemma. 1/2 inch forward? This might be the key...

Horn5413 Update! Thanks guys. I was able to get a cordless Dremel with a cutoff wheel up there and cut the nut half way. From there I used a punch and broke the nut off.. Did not have to lift the tub this time. Thanks for the input..

Tjrubicon17 I did the same thing last month with my 2 inch lift. I had a body lift so I was able to chisel 3 of the 4 off. Last one wouldn't come off so I redrilled new holes for the mounts about a half inch forward of the old ones. If you dont have a body lift your most likely going to have to raise your tub up either way to get new nuts up there. Good luck.

BLK00TJ It happens to a lot of us with those rear bolts. There are a few ways of tackling this where you lift the tub off the frame in the rear enough to be able to get to the welded nut to chisel, grind, or cut it off after drilling out the old bolt and either weld a new nut on or just use a regular nut to attach the shock. Another option is to get rid of the whole problem by outboarding your shocks. I did the first method but will outboard soon.

Broken shock bolt!

Here's the delema. Putting in a 2" spring lift and was removing the rear shocks and broke an upper mount bolt. The thing that kills me is that this jeep doesn't get driven in the winter it is parked in the garage. So much for trying to keep it salt free. Oh well any suggestions that anyone has for this problem would be great. I think I know what I am going to do but, anyone that has idea's will help. Thanks.
