Greyeagle [QUOTE=PStov98TJ;3730732]What direction is "in and out"? Like laterally or front to back?push

IN and Out.. pull out on wheel when raised off the ground a then push in.
moves ever so little.. but enough i think for the metal on metal sound of clunk-clunk

brokejeep My 06 was doing this too. After driving for a short distance & make a tight turn it started popping. Took differential cover off & everything looked fine. Refilled it with valvolene rear end lube & no more popping. Only mine started doing this at about 25,000 miles.

PStov98TJ What direction is "in and out"? Like laterally or front to back?

Check control arms and track bar first. Mounts, bushings, bolts, etc for play.

Noise in rear end

2006 Wrangler Sport, 4.0, auto..
105 k miles
I have a popping noise in the rear end when I turn a corner, I know I have a little play in the rear wheels ..... in and out motion. Mechanic at the shop said that was normal.. (I don't think so) sounds like clunk - clunk. ......
