Oldguy I tend to agree with the moderators However I really don't check the for sale very often or at all, same with Craig's List. Usually I end up wading through a lot of stuff I'm not interested in.

I wonder though, if it would be acceptable to have a heads up sticky when someone has put stuff out there? That way we would know there was something new out there and could check it out if we wanted.

This is also true for anyone using the android app.

chrisfp88 That makes things much easier and hopefully will allow more interest for local sales. It's irritating with big parts to be bugged about shipping, because lets face it, most parts are not reasonable for an individual to ship. I like that I can now search CO sale items separately

BreckenridgeYJ I hope it didn't come across as stirring the pot..... as stated, I highly value this forum. The community here is amazing and the suggestion was made only after seeing if other members had a similar interest and offering to volunteer to help.

The mod that I had pm'd on this initiatively was receptive and suggested a manor to go about requesting it. Perhaps as this forum continues to grow and thrive and states are inevitably asked to self moderate this will become a reality.

Thank you all for your responses (mods). If you ever need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Colo-TJ Sinister you make a good point. I have befitted more than anyone would ever know from this forum and I will become a supporting member by weeks end just for that fact alone.
It would help having it listed here but I can totally understand where they are coming from as well now that I have heard the reasoning. If that is the only thing that there is to see "wrong" with this site I think we have a pretty good thing going here.
I appreciate the fact that the mods came to this thread to explain and think it is great to have them involved with us on this publicly. Didn't even know about the filter in the classifieds.
Thanks

Sinister6 There are a lot of individuals that enjoy the benefits of this forum...yet still are not Supporting Members. Supporting this forum, in my opinion, also demonstrates a commitment to the forum and our Jeep community. It also gives us a louder voice, the more profitable the forum is, the more the owners will listen to the investors (US).
The short time I've personally been here, I've never got the impression the Moderators were not listening, on the contrary, every time I've pm'd one I've gotten a quick response. Most of my issues have been a result of my own personal "cerebral flatulence" but they have always listened and pointed me in the correct direction or offered assistence.

The idea is a good one, but the time is not right. Maybe as technology changes and with future app improvements it will become a reality. Remember we are all on the same team here...Support the Forum and your Mods...the time they spend on the forum takes away from their time working on their rigs, with their families and on the trail.

Justin04Lj I believe that the mods have done a fair job and enforce rules we all agreed on when signing up for this forum.

These statements are neither fair nor true.

This forum is not ours, it is owned by AutoGuide but it is your forum. We don't make the rules, we just try our best to enforce them.

As for ignoring members requests and suggestions, again, not true. The fact that you have received responses from 3 of the staff here should be proof of that. We do listen and we do what we can to make things better on a daily basis. Case in point: The creation of the sorting option so that you could more easily locate local goods for sale. We also created 2 sub-forums in the classifieds to help sort parts from vehicles from mass part outs. Again to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for.

Trust me, when members make requests like this, we take them into consideration and all weigh in on the feasibility. Sometimes we can make it happen and sometimes we cannot.

Just never for a moment think that we are not listening.
05-07-2013 08:18 PM
BreckenridgeYJ Well thank you for the consideration. Too bad it couldn't work. Perhaps it's a computer compatibility issue but the state sorting has not worked. Hence it seems so many posts land here until they get moved.

Either way, as stated, the sticky should eliminate from distracting from the discussion aspect. And I, as well as I'm sure 90% of the local forum members, would volunteer their time to moderate it. If pleasing the member base and potentially reducing the mods from having to police each region it seems like a win win. Let us know if you reconsider. Thank you either way. This is a great forum and appreciated. Its just the simple small things that would be preferred. And I hate rules

BrianTG Lol. Thought about discussing this farther but the sad and blunt truth is this forum is yours, so do with it as you wish.

There is a problem there with the rules also. This is not craigslist and posting links to craigslist and or sales on ebay is not permitted again per the rules. Rules for the classified are stickied at the top of each of the sales sections. It is something that is also sent to each member when they sign up to the forum in the welcome message they receive.
Also, the number of members that report their sale ad to be remove due to sale in maybe 1 in 100. Users just don't help out much there.
The big thing here is rules. Sadly we all must have them and not everyone will like them. Just will never happen. We did add the State/region selector to help users look at sale only in their area.
Also a big issue many members have is this is a jeep discussion board. Not craigslist. We are here for discussions about jeeps and jeep related stuff. Just as our sales section or items should be. There is very little reason or logic for us to have sales for (and just removed this week from the CO Section) sales of baby clothes, kitchen pans, or a mattresses. They have nothing to do with jeeps. We wish members great success with their sales but this is NOT the place for that.

To help search the for sale section, you should have the ability to "filter" the state that you are looking at. In other words, you can choose to look at ONLY CO postings.
Both of these are true.

I just hope it's okay to ask on the local forum as well as it gets word to people you know.

BrianTG Seriously saying this board doesn't have an auto pruning feature? Set it to 30 days and done.

The whole "it's sold" issue would be handled by the poster of said ad. They understand and assume the responsibility the moment they post their ad that for 30 days they could receive pm's about said ad regardless of its status. Moderators wouldn't be receiving pm's about the items so it puts no added stress on the volunteer staff.

Win win.

All we are asking is if you would sticky a thread made by us and set it to prune posts after 30 days. Then just don't move it.

The reality is that a majority of for sale threads are links to Craigslist. This is just a way for local guys to inform local guys about the items they put there.

Just asking for a stickied thread, that's all, no moderation needed.
05-07-2013 05:36 PM
distortedtj Sorry guys. You have to look at it from the working side also. If permitted here it has to be permitted in every state and country forum. The volunteer staff would have to go through every single one everyday to remove sold post and delete post in violation of the rules. (Jeep and jeep related items sold only, this is not a baby forum or kitchen forum.) We have only a few Moderators. We will not elect a local member for each section to moderate their own state section. Just poor business.

As told to the OP here in PM the other day, there is indeed a tool bar at the top of the classified section that you can select your state. It will then only show post in your state. A great addition added several months back to help users with this issue.

Thanks all.

BrianTG Just make a thread, have them sticky, done.
05-07-2013 03:57 PM
BreckenridgeYJ First response back was very polite but not too promising. I volunteered to help moderate the thread to alleviate some of the "staffing limitations" I'll keep everyone posted. I think this thread and the support/interest will hopefully open some doors.

A simple sticky thread will help keep each region from turning into a mass for sale list keeping topics more broad. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

C6Rubicon Good idea
05-07-2013 03:19 PM
BreckenridgeYJ I definitely see the point of having a "for sale" forum, and it's great for smaller parts that are easy to ship. For LARGE parts (tops, axles, wheels/tires, especially if the potential to barter is there it makes a lot less sense). I've made attempts to search for CO listings and never quite had any luck.

I'm thinking a sticky link at the top would keep the rest of it cleaner and less littered for the mods, so hopefully it will be a solution the out of state guys that watch over our little corner of the world will allow. I'm a member on other forums but certainly enjoy this one and feel a much great sense of community here.
05-07-2013 03:15 PM
Colo-TJ I'm all in for that. Makes total sense that each locality should have their own. I don't even check the classified now. It's to much of a pain to dig though all the foreign states and If I'm gonna pay for shipping it won't be on a used part.
05-07-2013 03:08 PM
chrisfp88 Agreed I'm in. Happens to me a lot with threads getting moved and drives me crazy.
05-07-2013 02:22 PM
1quick1 I am all about it. If it isn't obvious I post in this forum for my wanted/for sale items as well since it gets more attention from the locals.

Local for sale "sticky" in the local forum? Thoughts?

I've noticed whenever (myself included) list something for sale on our local forum, lots of interest gets drummed up. Once it gets moved to the "for sale" specific area, zero responses, how would other Colorado guys feel about having a stickied "buy sell trade" thread in the Colorado section? Loads of jeep parts are heavy, large and not shipping friendly.... Much less hassle and question of condition with forum members than craigslist as well....

What are your thoughts? Should I propose this to the Moderators? Not sure how likely it is they will allow it, but it's worth a shot.
