|DrewG||My dad and I got the Viair 400p, and I love that thing. We decided to go with the portable so we could share, and we're too cheap to buy two compressors. Fills dad's 35" tires pretty dang fast. I'd say no more than 2 - 2.5 minutes each. My 32" tires it pumps up SUPER quick. Overall, I'm pretty dang impressed with that little machine.|

I have aired my tires up and the handed it off to someone else to air theirs up with no issue. It was only shut off while moving from one tire to the next. It will get fairly hot and require some time to cool down when finished.
My personal believe is that the 33% duty cycle is a good trade off for the higher CFM than a compressor with 100% duty cycle and lower CFM.

|IslandTJ||I don't shut the 440p off during refilling so it's always on for all 4 tires. I am curious to see it reach its 33% duty limit, but it's that fast that I probably never will.|

I run the 450P Automatic with 33-12.50 X 15's. Aired down to 12PSI, to airing up to Street Pressure at 29psi takes approx 2min. 10sec. per Tire.
NOT REALLY a long time by any meaning of the word. Less than 10 Min
for all four tires, drinking a Beverage of your choice, isn't really long at all.
Sure the 440 has a higher fill Rate at 4 something, BUT IT IS ALSO ONLY RATED at 33% Duty Factor. (meaning it needs to rest and cool down during its running period) On the other hand, the 450P is 100% Duty cycle, NEVER REQUIRING A COOLDOWN OR REST PERIOD.
The 440, fill one tire in 2 min, rest 2 = total 4min. My math showed that 2m10s per with no rest is faster. But hey, what's the RUSH ┐ It's NOT like running the BAJA with Pit Stops.
This is what I chose to do, others choose differently, and yet, you may even go another route as well.

What size of tires have you used it on. How long did it take. I read somewhere that the times that are posted on Viair's web site are a little misleading.

Just received my 450P-Automatic. Works great. I leaned to portable for "portability" in moving to another vehicle now and a new Jeep in the future. You can take your MOD with you. Set-up is a non issue with the kit and it never cuts off due to overheating. Very pleased with quality.
I will say I think your choice of the 440P is correct due to better fill rates. I would go with it over the 450 if I had it to do over.

|Michigunman||The York is a sweet setup no doubt. I have the VIAIR 400 P automatic and really like it. It does my 33's from 10 to 30 in about 2 minutes each. I'm very happy with it.|

Running a used York air conditioner compressor from an old Jeep pickup, Grand Cherokee, and some AMC and Fords is a cheap way to go and you get LOTS of air. The advantage of an on board system is not having to drag out your compressor and hose, just hook up your air hose and go. Do you ever want to run air tools on the trail? Get a double piston York if you can find one and you won't even need an air tank.
My OBA system will air up a 35 12.50 17 from 15 to 26 lbs in less than a minute. Personally, I hate spending 15 minutes putting air in my tires.
Kilby Enterprises makes some slick complete kits for this, or you can piece it all together to save. On my TJ, I bought Kilby's bracket and pulley and sourced my York from a junk yard and bought a 2 gal tank online someplace. On my JKU, I switched to a Warn PowerPlant with air... it's almost as fast as the York was.

A lot depends on how big your tires are, with my 31's and a Sureflow, or is it Superflow, MV50 it takes about 3-4 minutes for each tire to go from 10psi to 32psi. If you have 35's of bigger get a big pump or you will there a while.
Mine is portable and connects to the battery and works well for me.

I've been happy with my Tsunami for many years. Trail to street pressure in 2-3 minutes per tire.
About $60 in it,
MasterFlow MF-1050 or MV-50.

OBA vs Portable
I'm looking to purchase an air system for my YJ. I'm trying to decided between OBA or Portable. What are some of the pros and cons to each. I'm leaning toward the Viair 440P. Any help would be greatful. Thanks
