Dirttracker18 No you cannot run trans in you transmission. You must use a heavy weight oil like gear oil, say a 75w 90.

Do not put auto tranny fluid in your transmission.

In your transfer case yes you can run auto tranny fluid.

goatman Get some ATF+4 (its synthetic and the recommended fluid). Remove the top fill plug FIRST (don't want to in in a situation where you removed the lower and its empty but now you cant fill it). You can then top it off with the fluid, or remove the lower plug to drain all the old stuff out, then fill it.

Squirrel 442 There are a ton of threads on what fluid to use in the T-case (a couple options) along with how to check/replace fluid write ups. If you ask 10 people you'll get 9 different answers. Take a few minutes to read through some posts and pick what works best for you. I use ATF fluid in mine.

It is a super easy job, especially when your lifted.

Is there a way to check your transmission fluid

I have a 92 yj 5speed 2.5 and I just did my 2.5 rc lft and 1inch shackle lift a few weeks ago had some vibrations and rattling did tcase drop and it all stopped. I got a new tranny clutch and flywheel resurfaced about a little over a month ago. I went and got a little muddy a few days ago and didn't really put it on to four wheel except to get up one hill and now my stick fills a little dry like it clinks when it goes in and feels like its dry I have a little leak in the tcase or on the back drive shaft you can tell from the bottom of the jeep above the drive shaft. So iv done a little reading chances are I need to get a new gasket for the transfer case and fill it? Does the transmission use tcase fluid also? I'm going on a road trip about 3.5 hours away in two weeks and I'm taking the jeep so I'm just wanting to be sure I can make it tere and back . Any suggestions or anyone's 2 cents on what it could be will be very appriciated. Oh here's some eye candy from when I did a little off reading lol
