My wife has the AFE in her JK. The sound is great. I don't see water sucking in as an issue. The front of the wrangler doesn't point straight through to the filter so she'd have to be submerged to get water in. Since her wrangler doesn't even see dirt, that shouldn't be a problem.
I do warn people that the AFE mounting solution for the temp sensor is uhm unconvincing. I ended up putting black RTV gasket maker goo around the temp sensor base to make sure it was completely sealed and holding steady.
Anyways, I highly recommend an aftermarket intake.

|bfschor||Good to know about the throttle response! The lag I get when letting out the clutch is horrible! Anything will help!|

Betty wore the pro guard 7 AFE intake for a year before the SC was installed.
The 7 is the same one you have, but its the oiled model. I drove through a lot of deep water in rausch creek (im sure I have video) and When I was trembling about it, the others all laughed at me.
Its pretty high in the engine bay. You'd really have to dunk the front end and keep it dunked to get water in it.
I've got the re-oil kit on its way and I have my filter in my living room with a years worth of grime on it. If you guys want to see it ill post a shot. Im about to clean and re-oil it.
Now....How much better does your jeep sound? SOOOOOOOO much better than the air box.

|mjpjr45||I installed the same one a few months back. I also installed an Outerwear on it, that repels water. Outerwear didn't have one for this particular setup, at the time, but after getting the measurements from me, they made me one, and it fits like a glove. No pics of it though.|

Does the dry keep out as much dirt than the oiled?
Looks good btw.

Just installed the AFE dry filter intake
Install was pretty straight forward other than the damn temp sensor removal, little arrow shows tightening direction and I almost broke it. Other than that it took me about 20 minutes, I see a little better throttle response and a nice throaty sound under acceleration.
