Jeepdad12jk All you need is a 4 x 8 trailer - $300 at Menards - couple sheets of plywood - and you have trick - best thing about this trailer -rails come off - it folds in half and stores sitting straight up in the corner of my garage in a 2 x 6 space...

I went to the local dealership yesterday and seemed to talk to a guy pretty knowledgeable on lifted jeeps but I am not to sure. I am looking for someone to shed some light on my choices to trade my truck in.

My first question is I was told that even with a 4in lift and 35s on a new 2013 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara I would still get a combo of 18mpg, I find this hard to believe since my truck only gets 12mpg and I have a chip and many upgrades into it. Is this MPG correct? If not what is the avg?

My next question is I see a lot of people talking about changing the gearing and all this if they want to lift the Jeep, is this normal? I only ever had to throw a lift and tires on my trucks when lifted.

I also talked to the salesman about the ride of a lifted Jeep. He said the ride is very good now with no road noise since they are now triple sealed. I am not expecting it to ride like a dream but would still not like to get beat to death as I make about a 3 hour drive once to twice a month?

Lastly I would be switching from a large truck to a smaller vehicle with no truck bed. I do not do a lot of hauling but like to surf and throw stuff in the back of the truck occasionally. If anyone has made this switch and could let me know there feelings that would be awesome?

Thanks and hope to get a lot of help on these questions from people who really know what they are talking about and are not just trying to sell me one off the lot.
Well I was a truck man for over 20 yes and counting... always wanted a jeep ..so this yr I traded my Loaded 2012 tundra for a 2013 sahara unlimited... needless to say I love it! Yes I miss the capacity of a truck... but a small trailer for the sometime use gets me by. As for lifts... did a 2 inch and got some take off Rubicons for my billet color jeep. Love it well not the most versed in owning a wrangler. I am in owning a gas guzzling truck. I love the trade I made and consider it a step up ... Don't second guess yourself.. make the move and the only looking back will be to see who is stuck or someone looking at your jeep wishing they had one

cmaggi2 Very decent post, sir. I would see about moving this to the JK section, as your MPG and gearing questions are pretty specific to the 2012+ Jeep.

Your MPG w/ 4" and 35s would depend a lot on your weight. Depends what you're adding on as far as mods and what tire/rim combo you choose. I doubt you'd get 18, but you'd do better than 12 easily.

With 35s and 3.73 gears (do NOT get 3.21 if you're lifting) you may be fine. Some upgrade, some don't. There are ppl here running 35s on 3.21 and seem fine. This depends on auto/manual and if 2012+.

I only have a 2" lift w/ ATs and a soft top, but the ride is fine (coming from Ford Ranger and Explorer).

You'll make do w/o the truck bed, but only you know how much you would need a bed. Taking the rear seats out of an Unlimited yields a bit of cargo space.
