With that low of an RPM, it could be that the lock-up circuit for the torque converter is holding it locked so it can't slip at a stop.
Edit: Is that RPM you show in the photograph with the transmission in Drive or Park? If they are in Drive, what are the RPMs in Park or Neutral?

Do you have to gold the brake pedal down hard or can you use "normal" pressure?
I'm voting for "that's just how it is" since you said this is your first auto.

|SHADYDC||i will dbl check the rpm's tonight. ive not drove jeep in a week so im going off memory. as far as what been done to jeep. i cant be for sure because ive only had it sincee march. but everything is stock and does not look to be recently replaced and the PO told me a list of things that he had done maintenance and he did not say anthing about the things you listed. ive not really tried to trouble shoot it yet.|

Those idle RPMs are too high, has any work been done to your engine like replacing the exhaust manifold, or any other work that could have involved or affected any of the various vacuum hoses?
Has anything ever been done to the transmission's kickdown cable adjustment? It is also possible it has been misadjusted so it is too tight. But at this point, I would suspect the higher than usual engine RPMs as the root cause of your problem... which is usually caused from a vacuum leak.

ill try to explain this best i can this is my first auto jeep so wondering if this is normal
if holding brake while in gear ( like stopped at redlight) the jeep feels like its a drag car staging at the christmas tree. like there is alot of torque at idle. when you let off brake it doesnt start slight roll like most vehicles. its more of a launch. i know it isnt the raw power of the jeep lol but its harder to hold the jeep still at idle than my 650hp diesel. if you drop it to N you can really tell how bad it was torqued.
hope i described this well enough for anyone to understand. i have the 4.0 and 3 speed, never had a veicel feel like this
