center console removal-easy...
I needed to replace the auto shift mechanism on my 2007 JK and saw this thread. I removed the 4 bolts holding the console in place and had the same problem with the brake handle mentioned earlier. I took my ride to the local dealer and asked a tech to tell me how they removed the console in the shop since it seemed way to much trouble to remove the brake. He came out to my Jeep and took both hands and yanked up on the parking brake handle and voila...console would come right off. You just have to put some muscle into getting that brake handle up high enough. Also, if you remove the top cap on the 4 wheel drive selector knob, there is a retainer clip that can be pried off to make the knob easier to pull off.
Hope this helps someone else.

Replacing speaker in center console Jeep 2002 Wrangler
Any suggestions on how to remove the center console on my 2002 Jeep Wrangler to replace the blown speaker? Do the 4 triangle type screws play a part? Sounds like it could be rather difficult to do. Thanks.

|RobW||ocbasbalburg.... thanks for your help. I got it out. The key to removal was to unbolt the parking brake from the floor. That allowed the brake to lift high enough to slide the console over it. What a project. I've removed several center consoles before and don't remember any being this difficult. Thanks for the help! - Rob|

And some more words that arn't mine...
The real trick is not only do youhave to remove the cubby in back and the screws holding it, you have to loosen the front bolt that holds down the parking brake and remove the back one. This allows you the extra bit of clearance to get the console out. Without loosening the parking brake (at least on an auto) you're not getting that console out I don't think. I certainly wasn't going to be able to without breaking something. Once that step is done it's pretty easy. Just be careful not to scratch it up putting it back in.

That may help too...

Not my words, but hopefully it will help shed some light...
there are four screws holding it in place, 2 in back and 2 in front on each side. All the other smaller screw have nothing to do with holding in the console. Remove the screws ( you will need to move the seats back and forth), lift the emergency brake handle to its absolutely highest position, remove the shift lever knob and transfer case knob (they pull straight off or you can place an open wrench beneath and tap off with a hammer), and lift up the console from the rear until it clears the brake lever and then pull back so the front clears the dash console. There is a power coupling under the console for your rear windows if you have electric windows. Poof, you are done.

How to remove center console?
I'm trying to remove the center console on a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I've done a lot of searching and found a couple sites with instructions but so far I have been unsuccesful. I'm unable to lift up on the console after removing the torque screws due to interference with the park brake even though it is all the way up. Has anyone ever removed the console on the JK before. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks! - Rob
