Big Cole Larger diameter wheels won't make your rig taller. You will need tires taller than 31" to realize any height gains.

Rob35pa Thank you. Cost is somewhat a factor but I wouldn't mind it riding a lil higher and not such a gap in the wheel wells.

Off Pavement Welcome! Your '97 is a TJ just so you know. The bolt pattern on stock TJ wheels is 5x4.5. I ran tires that size back in '97 with 3.75" backspace on a 8.5" wide wheel and had no problems. If you want to use the wheels you have, placing a washer or possibly two under the steering stop studs should clear up your frame rub on full turn steering.

I'm not familiar with the wheels you mention, but the same backspace issues apply. BTW - 15" tires are almost always less expensive than comparable larger sized tires if that matters to you.

Thinkin of larger wheels

I receintly bought a 97 YJ (my first jeep). I think I wanna go a little larger with the wheels and was wondering what all I need to do. Very new to this. I'm pretty sure the kid I bought it from had no idea. It currently has 31x10.5 r 15 lt tires on it. I'm reading some posts here that help. I'm assuming that he has no backspace on it since if I cut the wheels they rub the frame. And the spare is a reg 15 which is obviously smaller. Saw an ad on CL for a brand new set of 5x4.6-16 assassins that look cool. Would they fit?
