I drove up to Bass Pro Shop on Saturday. They usually have a little ammo - they had NOTHING in the calibers I was hunting for, but a LOT of ammo boxes? Now tell me, what good is an ammo box if you have no ammo???
They had lots of shotgun shells though - I guess now I need to buy a shot gun so I can buy ammo for it!

Over the last month the company that I work for moved to a larger location in Oceanside, CA. The previous occupant of the location was also a manufacturer of tactical gear, but they also built custom rifles.
Thursday night an associate and I hear a large truck pull up to the dock and we go back. The driver asks for the previous company (that moved to Texas) and we tell them they have moved. He then tells me that he has an entire pallet of ammunition... OH SHIT, hell yeah they are still here! Where do I sign!!!

|krisbman||Good luck finding any in Oregon unless you want a box of .22 bird shot. Cabelas has nothing all the mom n pop shops have squat and theres more dust on the bi mart shelves than ammo, however i think i just got a connection so we will see.|

|Davidramil03||I miss the days when you could get a 550 box of .22 for $10|

I have 4x140mm and 4x170mm and I don't even have my gun yet from Infinity Firearms Still being built. 6 more months...

|fan of fanboys||
9mm and 12 gauge slug hard to find here. And when I find its overpriced.
Buddy in Salisbury MD said last week he can barely find 9mm either

|TheyCallMeSnow||I don't have school next week.. So I'll be camping out at stores for ammo..|

The ammo shortage hits all. Powder and primers are required for home-rollers as well as Federal/Remington/etc. We can scare up the odd box of primers or container of powder, but it's a part-time job to scrounge supplies, and the last box of bullets I bought cost me $130/thousand of shitty cast-lead wax-ring .40 (I usually pay about $68/thousand for moly-coat).

|TheyCallMeSnow||I will re-load my shotgun shells eventually. But .22 I heard you can't reload..|
|05-15-2013 12:09 PM|
|GoldenSahara00||Learn to reload. With the way ammo is, you should be able to make your money back fast if you do any decent amount of shooting.|

|TeleMark||I've been waiting nearly 4 months for 140mm STI mags for the Limited gun I'm building.|

|socal-jk||Its a bubble that will burst at some point. Californians on the other hand will probably have issues with ammo and guns for the foreseeable future..... I now have another excuse to go to Vegas and AZ for vacation.... buy ammo. I picked up a DPMS LR-308 back in dec (it was in its 10 day gun jail when Sandy Hook happened) and I can't get mags or anything let alone pay an arm and leg for .308|

|TheyCallMeSnow||I mean.. I can find .223 ammo.. but .22 is another story.|

After O was elected, everyone lost their collective shit (HEZ COMIN FER MY GUNZZZZZ) and bought every firearm they could find. Ammo makers were already running at near max capacity in 2009 due to this as well as military purchases. Things never really got back to a steady-state, since there were FAR more guns out there which needed ammo (I'm making the assumption that some of the guns bought in panic 4 years ago are actually used).
After Sandy Hook, the panic machine ramped up to 11, and the hoarding went through the roof. Ammo makers have not done anything to increase capacity of manufacturing (you can only make ammo 24 hours/day) like building more facilities due to many factors.
I reload 99% of my ammo and am currently unable to get bullets. I usually shoot Bear Creek, and rumors are that the lead mine they use was flooded during the wet winter in northern CA. It sucks, because panicky idiots are preparing for the cataclysm which will never happen.
Economics 101. When demand exceeds supply, shortages happen. If manufacturers do not increase capacity, shortages do not dissipate.

|groovebus||I stopped shooting the minute I couldn't buy powder and primers for reloading. I have enough ammo stored, but I don't want to use it until I can at least get more components. I use to go out to the range once a month, I haven't been since Nov.|
