trym3 Hello,

Could you guys please help me decide if i should get AT2 or HT ?
Never seen how they look and tbh this is my first wrangler
I drive 90% on street and highways (long commute sadly)
Aiming for good mpg But i still want a good looking tire...

Toyo AT2 285/70R17 P 49 lbs

Toyo HT 285/70R17 T 44.6 lbs

Hell, i'm adding AT2 285/65/R18 also, would my MPG drop hard with this tire compared to the other 2?

cokey4237 I've got exactly 1 year in(~8k), extremely quiet tire for an aggressive AT. Even with the doors off on the hwy. They don't scallop like other treads, which causes them to get louder as you rack up the miles.

Was contemplating buying my first ever Jeep this weekend('02 Sport automatic), but pretty much gave up on the idea of owning a TJ after this test drive. The road noise on the test drive was maddening at 50mph+. The GY Wranglers with uneven wear made it difficult to talk and it would be unbearable with even just the windows down, or god forbid the top/doors off. I went into this test drive expecting body creaks and wind noise to be the issue, but heard almost none. 90% of the noise was coming from the tires even at low speed. Is that standard for a TJ?

This thread is bringing me back around. If I can get a good enough deal, I may make the leap, slap 4 Toyo AT2 31's on, get a good alignment and hope for the best.

If anyone can add personal opinion here, I'd appreciate it.

Do you find yourself able to reasonably converse in a hardtop TJ going 50mph on good pavement?

Sounds to me like these Toyo AT2's are slightly quieter on the street than the BFG T/A KO's that everyone loves. Would you say that's correct?

yours are even bigger. 34.8 x 11.8, so I would think that would be a big hit, and probably LT e rated as well.

the 285/70r17 is 32.7 x 11.4, and in hte P is 48lbs.

i still think i'll probably stay w/ the smaller ones. I hate the feeling of tires stealing the power.

iflyhi22002 I can tell you, I put on the 285/75r18 and it definitely takes some power away and mpg took a hit as well. I have a 13, automatic. Ride is pretty quiet, but firm. Like the looks but pretty sure I would look at others next time. Just my. 02. I have a set of 5 if you want to buy like new

OK, still nothing? Seems lots are running the 285/70r17 in the Pmetric.
Any help?

I do have 3.73 gears w/ the max tow if that helps.

as stated, the lt 285/70r17 duratrac in the E was not good on it. Much slower and less fun to drive, and 20% drop in mpg as well. Seems the toyo is less aggressive 5lbs lighter per tire, may not be nearly the same issue I had w/ the gy.

I know they have the 500mi guarantee, but would like the best data I could get before pulling the trigger.

I have been reading up on this tire, and was ready to purchase in the same size as my winter tire (265/17r17), but then I saw a rubicon U with them mounted, and they seemed quite a bit smaller and didn't fill out the wheel wells. I measured, and mine hankook ipike in the same size was over .5 wider and taller.
So, thinking of going to the next size up.
but,

I recently purchased 275/65 r18s for my 14 Sahara 4d. Here is my input:

They come in four varieties: P 4ply, LT 6ply, LT 10ply, and LT 10 ply extreme

-p ride the best, have a less aggressive side wall, shallower tread, and 65k tread warranty
-LT 6ply have a more aggressive side wall and deep tread with 50k tread warranty
-LT 10 ply have a more aggressive side wall and deep tread with 50k tread warranty
-LT 10 ply extreme have the most aggressive side wall and deepest tread, but they are only available in select sizes. Not sure about warranty.

10 ply will have a huge affect on ride, (rougher) but will be more durable for off road puncture hazards
I chose the 6 ply because I wanted a more aggressive look than the P rated tire offered. The ride is stiffer, but not in a bad way. I'm at 35 psi, but I could go a little lower if I wanted. 10 ply tires are really designed for a much heavier vehicle like an F250. Jeeps are light. Keep this in mind when shopping. I think the 6 ply LT is the perfect jeep AT tire due to the jeep's weight.

I have no lift and my tires do not rub even at full lock to the right. These tires are 10.8 wide vs the stock at 10 wide. That only closes the inside gap by 0.4 inches. One thing that is largely different is tread width. Stock duelers were just over 7.6 tread width. Although the section width is only .8 wider the tread width is 9 which is an increase of around 1.4 inches.

I chose 275/65s because that aspect ratio kept me at the stock 32 inch height...not messing with my speedo. My tires are still under the fenders. I have about another 3/4 inch before I am flush with the TOP of the fender. I may add a spacer to widen the stance a bit (cosmetic only). I believe fenders serve a purpose, so if I go wider I'm getting new fenders!

Lifts are to keep articulation with larger tire diameter (which add clearance) (and look awesome). Since these tires fill the fender well a little more I would love an inch or two of lift...but thEn I would just want taller tires creating the never ending conundrum.

Another note on performance: I have max tow so lower gear ratio, etc. I can definitely tell these are heavier tires when accelerating from a stop...but I didn't buy a jeep to drag race.

I think these tires will be terrible for mud (but hey, they aren't MTs) due to the small gaps in the tread from front to back. Side gaps are much wider. Having said that I have been OK in the red clay mud at my hunting camp...and it's sticky.

I hope this info is helpful. Some of this info was missing in the forum. I'm new to this, but I'm an OCD shopper. I hope my time researching has helped.

Price out the smittybuilt oversized tire carrier. It's cheap and it lines up with the existing holes. Especially if your going to decide to go with a better bumper later on with an attached swinging carrier or something.

jadmt lately I have been running mine at 26-27lbs on my 14 rubicon unlimited and that is about right, I was at 28-30 but I keep dropping them down to see how they will do and so far no difference around town in mpg. They definitely feel better on the highway at lower psi as far as handling goes.. headed to Moab in less then a week and will have them down around 15lbs for that. It is a 750 mile road trip down so I will probably pump them up to mid 30's for the trip down and back.

redvettx2 Got rid of the stock MT at 100 miles. AT'2 are much quieter and with the lift the ride is better also. Taken them out in the desert a couple of times now and barely spin a tire. With the lockers they will crawl up some pretty steep stuff. Running them at 32lb right now but I think 28 will be better for the 2 dr.
Aired them to 18 lbs for a long wheeling trip and yesterday ran them at street pressures. Harder ride in the rocks when not aired down. Ran in 2wd most of the time even in deep sand. I thought I was going to stick it once as I got caught in some soft and deep while in 2wd. A little more gas and they started to spin a bit and popped right up on top and away we went. They were not air down either. So far very impressed. The 35's do tend to follow groves on the road but find me a 35 that doesn't.

Ngin40 Sorry don't mean to hi-jack the thread but has anyone in this thread ever owned both Duratracs and the Toyo AT2. I'm undecided on which to purchase, I have a long commute to work but it's only twice a week so noise isn't a factor unless one is significantly louder than the other. I drive a 2013 JKU Sahara. any advice would be appreciated

MGlickLBZ Not to hijack the thread but I ran a set of these in 265 75 16 on a modded Duramax and got 52,000 miles out of them in load range E. Toyo makes great tires and if I could find them in the right size to run on my Crappy Duty I would run them on it.

iflyhi22002 Installed my 285/75r18 toyo open country at 2's. Installed measure exactly 34" tall, this is with a TF leveling kit and 1.5" wheel spacers. I have a 2.5" lift waiting to be installed. I do rub on the plastic air damn only at full turn... But I sure wouldn't do any trails as is. Spare won't fit on carrier either without a spacer or extension.

dawhitesJKU traded my jk and got a new "KL" cherokee trailhawk. The firestones that come stock are pretty lame and stiff. man oh man do i miss the toyo's. Looks like i'll be upgrading the firestones in a couple months...perhaps the wheels too.

56cbr600rr Can someone get a real world "tread width measurement" and "width measurement at its widest point" from their 285/70 R17 P metric ATII? And if so can you tell me what size wheel it's mounted on? Thanks!

Curious on this before I pull the plug. My local shop will do all 5 mounted, balanced, etc OTD after taxes for $970.

WranglerJA I decided to swap nearly new 17x35 MTs to the AT2 Extremes 20x35. I was very skeptical with mainly the look (have ran MT's since 2005 on other rigs), solid ride/handling and longetivity. What an improved difference! Super quite, very smooth and as others have posted, in person the tire looks much better than pics. Although the section width is smaller than MT, the tread width is 1" wider with a bold square shoulder.
